QMJHL rules Remparts winger to be suspended one game for each fight this season

BOUCHERVILLE, Que. - Quebec Remparts left-winger Yanick Turcotte will be suspended one game for each fight he gets into over the rest of the regular season, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League commissioner Gilles Courteau ruled Tuesday.

Turcotte, 19, is the first player to be disciplined since the league's board of governors amended a rule on players who reach 10 fighting major penalties in a season.

The previous rule, brought in this season, called for an automatic five-game suspension for a 10th fight. The amendment calls on the commissioner to meet a player who fights 10 times and decide what supplemental discipline is warranted on a case by case basis.

Courteau made the decision after meeting with Turcotte and Remparts coach and general manager Philippe Boucher.

Turcotte has one goal, five assists and 76 penalty minutes in 54 games this season.
