WHL Roundup: Brian King's late goal lead Silvertips past Winterhawks 3-2

EVERETT, Wash. - Brian King's late winner was just enough to lead the Everett Silvertips past the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Dawson Leedahl and Connor Dewar both had power-play goals for Everett (30-16-4) in the second period. Carter Hart made 22 saves for the win.

Rihards Bukarts opened scoring for Portland (25-24-2), while Dominic Turgeon added a goal late in the second. Goalie Adin Hill stopped 21 shots in net for the Winterhawks.

The Silvertips went 2 for 3 on the power play, while Portland could not score on its one man advantage.

RAIDERS 3 COUGARS 1

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Reid Gardiner scored and added two assists to lead the Raiders past Prince George.

Captain Tim Vanstone and Jordan Tkatch chipped in for Prince Albert (28-17-6).

Chase Witala replied for the Cougars (31-19-3).

ROYALS 4 HITMEN 1

VICTORIA — Matthew Phillips had a pair of power-play goals to lift the Royals over Calgary in an undisciplined win.

Dante Hannoun scored the eventual winner for Victoria (32-15-5) in the first period, while Jack Walker had a goal early in the first.

Jackson Houck responded for the Hitmen (30-19-2).

The Royals earned 24 minutes in penalties and Calgary had 41 minutes of penalties.

THUNDERBIRDS 3 BLAZERS 1

KENT, Wash. — Keegan Kolesar struck twice, once on the power play and once and into an empty net, as Seattle skated past Kamloops.

Matthew Wedman also scored for the Thunderbirds (28-19-3).

Matt Needham was the lone scorer for the Blazers (23-20-8).

CHIEFS 6 GIANTS 2

VANCOUVER — Brothers Kailer and Keanu Yamamoto both scored in Spokane's rout of the Giants.

Jason Fram, Tyson Helgesen, Markson Bechtold and Jaret Anderson-Dolan rounded out the Chiefs' (25-20-5) attack.

Chase Lang supplied the offence for Vancouver (20-28-5).
