WHL Roundup: Patrick, McGauley lead Wheat Kings over Warriors 6-2

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Nolan Patrick and Tim McGauley each had a pair of goals as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-2 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League action.

Ivan Provorov scored once and set up two more for the Wheat Kings (32-15-4) while Macoy Erkamps added the other.

Dryden Hunt and Noah Gregor had a goal and an assist apiece for the Warriors (25-20-7).

Brandon's Jordan Papirny made 35 saves for the win. Zach Sawchenko started in net for Moose Jaw and allowed five goals on 31 shots in 40 minutes of work. Brody Willms came in for the third and made seven saves in relief.

Both clubs went 1 for 3 on the power play.

COUGARS 7 BLADES 0

SASKATOON — Brogan O'Brien had a goal and three asissts and Aaron Boyd scored twice as Prince George blanked the Blades.

Cougars (31-18-3) netminder Nick McBride made 27 saves for the shutout while Jansen Harkins, Jesse Gabrielle, Bartek Bison and Jared Bethune rounded out the attack.

Evan Smith turned away 25-of-32 shots for Saskatoon (18-29-4).

Prince George winger Chase Witala was ejected in the second period after being handed a major for checking to the head.

OIL KINGS 6 ICE 3

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Brandon Baddock jump started a five-goal third period as Edmonton came from behind to hand Kootenay its ninth loss in a row.

Lane Bauer, Tyler Robertson, Ben Carroll and Jesse Roach had third-period goals for the Oil Kings (22-23-7) while Colton Kehler scored in the first. Payton Lee made 19 saves for the win.

Jesse Zaharichuk struck twice as the Ice (8-39-4) built up a 3-1 lead. Matt Alfaro had the other while Declan Hobbs kicked out 25 shots in a losing cause.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Scott Feser broke a 1-1 deadlock at 19:03 of the third period as Swift Current slipped past the Tigers for its third win in a row.

Tyler Steenbergen also scored for the Broncos (18-27-5), who got a 28-save outing from Taz Burman.

Steven Owre was the only skater to beat Burman while Nick Schneider stopped 38 shots for Medicine Hat (20-28-4), which is on a three-game slide.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Evan Sarthough made 33 saves as Tri-City toppled Kamloops for its third win in as many outings.

Mackenze Stewart, Michael Rasmussen, Vladislav Lukin, Morgan Geekie and Parker Bowles found the back of the net for the Americans (23-25-2).

Gage Quinney, Matt Revel and Collin Shirley responded for the Blazers (23-19-8). Connor Ingram stopped 24-of-29 shots in defeat.

ROCKETS 2 HURRICANES 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Tomas Soustal scored both goals for his club as the Western-Conference leading Rockets edged the top team from the Eastern Conference.

Michael Herringer stopped 30-of-31 shots for Kelowna (35-13-3), which handed Lethbridge its third straight loss.

Jordy Bellerive scored for the Hurricanes (36-15-0) as Stuart Skinner made 27 saves in a losing cause.
