WHL Roundup: Braylon Shmyr has hat trick and assist to lead Blades past Pats

SASKATOON - Braylon Shmyr had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Saskatoon Blades past the Regina Pats 7-3 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Wyatt Sloboshan, Nick Zajac, Connor Gay and Colton Waltz supplied the rest of the offence for the Blades (18-28-4), who snapped a four-game skid.

Riley Woods, Robbie Holmes and Jared Freadrich scored for Regina (21-22-7), which got three assists from Adam Brooks.

Evan Smith made 29 saves for the win in net. Tyler Brown took the loss after kicking out 12-of-17 shots in 40 minutes of work. Jordan Hollett came on in relief and turned aside 6-of-8 shots.

Saskatoon scored once on two power-play chances while the Pats were 1 for 4.

COUGARS 6 WARRIORS 2

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Jansen Harkins scored twice and Chase Witala had a goal and three assists as Prince George downed the Warriors.

Brogan O'Brien, Bartek Bison and Kody McDonald rounded out the attack for the Cougars (30-18-3), who opened the game with four-straight goals.

Jayden Halbgewachs and Brett Howden had goals for Moose Jaw (24-19-7).

WHEAT KINGS 2 REBELS 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Tyler Coulter scored the winner at 18:39 of the third period as Brandon slipped past the Rebels.

Noal Patrick tied the game at 1-1 earlier in the third period for the Wheat Kings (31-14-4).

Michael Spacek had a power-play goal in the first for Red Deer (32-16-3).

Brandon's Garrett Armour received a game misconduct after a major penalty for checking to the head in the first period.

RAIDERS 5 TIGERS 3

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Reid Gardiner and Tim Vanstone had a goal and an assist each as Prince Albert snapped a four-game losing skid with a win over the Tigers.

Brendan Guhle, Loch Morrison and Kolten Olynek also chipped in for the Raiders (27-17-5), who got three helpers from Simon Stransky.

Steven Owre, Mason Shaw and David Quenneville scored for Medicine Hat (20-26-4).

BLAZERS 4 WINTERHAWKS 2

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Collin Shirley, Nick Chyzowski and Garrett Pilon all had a goal and an assist to help the Blazers double up Portland.

Jake Kryski had the other for Kamloops (23-18-8), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Jack Dougherty and Alex Schoenborn found the back of the net for the Winterhawks (25-23-2).

GIANTS 4 HURRICANES 2

VANCOUVER — Brennan Menell had a goal and two assists as the Giants doubled up Lethbridge.

Alec Baer, Chase Lang and Trevor Cox rounded out the attack for Vancouver (20-27-5).

Cory Millette had both goals for the Hurricanes (36-14-0).

AMERICANS 7 CHIEFS 3

SPOKANE, Wash. — Vladislav Lukin had two goals and two assists as Tri-City routed the Chiefs.

Tyler Sandhu scored once and added two assists for the Americans (22-25-2). MacKenze Stewart, Jordan Topping, Morgan Geekie and Parker Bowles rounded out the attack.

Ethan McIndoe, Dominic Zwerger and Hudson Elynuik scored for Spokane (23-20-5), which had a three-game winning streak ended.

SILVERTIPS 2 THUNDERBIRDS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Graham Millar scored the winner at 18:10 of the third period as the Silvertips edged Seattle to snap a three-game skid.

Brandon Ralph also found the back of the net for Everett (29-15-4).

Ryan Gropp had a power-play goal for the Thunderbirds (26-19-3).

Remi Laurencelle of the Silvertips received a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind midway through the third period.

ROYALS 4 ROCKETS 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Matthew Phillips scored twice, including once on the power play, and added an assist as Victoria downed the Rockets.

Tyler Soy and Alex Forsberg also had goals on the man advantage for the Royals (31-15-5).

Justin Kirkland opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for Kelowna (34-12-3), which saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.
