Fantasy Friday: Lecavalier making noise in L.A.

With the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2006-07, a 26-year-old Vincent Lecavalier had his best NHL season with a League-best 52 goals and 108 points, third-most in the League.

The following season he had 40 goals and 92 points. But after that season things started to decline for Lecavalier. He never scored 30 goals again, his point totals declined in three consecutive seasons from the 2009-10 until 2012-13, and he was bought out of his contract following the 2012-13 season.

Seven games into his Kings career, Lecavalier has looked like a new player with new motivation. He has three goals and an assist, with all three of his goals coming on the power play over the past four games. At even strength he's been centering a line with Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson. He's also playing with Carter and Marian Gaborik on the power play. He's had at least 13:43 of ice time in four of the past five games.

During the past three days, no player has been added more in Yahoo fantasy leagues than Lecavalier, who's eligible at center and left wing.

So should Lecavalier be added by fantasy owners? Can he continue this hot streak for the rest of the season?

At 35 there's plenty of reason to expect Lecavalier to regress from his current level of play. Playing in the more physical Western Conference on a nightly basis could wear on his aging body. But why not give him a shot and pick him up while he's playing with confidence? He won't produce at the superstar level of the earlier part of his career but he still can help in some fantasy categories. He's got plenty of talent and support around him in Los Angeles, which should result in at the very least a boost in his plus/minus. He's receiving solid power-play time so he could help in the power-play points category as well.

Owned in 15 percent of Yahoo leagues, Lecavalier makes for the perfect waiver-wire flyer (no pun intended). Give him a look for a couple of weeks, and if he starts to regress you can drop him.

If Lecavalier happens to be owned in your league or if you'd rather not take the chance with him, here are a few other players that you can add:

Vladislav Namestnikov, C, Tampa Bay Lightning (owned in 32 percent of Yahoo leagues) -- He was mentioned as a waiver-wire recommendation in "Fantasy All-Access" a couple of times, but let me remind you again: pick him up. He's playing on the top line alongside Steven Stamkos and has 10 points in the past nine games, tied for 11th-most in the NHL since Jan. 1. He's also been a plus-11 since then, tied for first in the NHL.

Bo Horvat, C, Vancouver Canucks (9 percent owned) -- Like Namestnikov, Horvat been hot of late. He has 11 points since Jan. 1, tied for fifth-most in the NHL during that time. The downside is he's been a minus-4 during that span. But if you're looking for points and power-play production, Horvat makes for a good addition.

Adam Larsson, D, New Jersey Devils (5 percent owned) -- Larsson has one goal and five assists in his past seven games. The 23-year-old has been a plus or even player in his past nine games. Give him a shot if you need help on defense.
