CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Phil Di Giuseppe scored the eventual winner and tacked on an assist as the Charlotte Checkers downed the visiting Manitoba Moose 4-1 on Sunday in American Hockey League action.
David Wohlberg opened the scoring for the Checkers (24-12-2) in the first period and Di Giuseppe added his goal at 17:16 of the second to make it 2-1 Charlotte. Ethan Werek and Derek Ryan added a goal each in the third period.
Scott Kosmachuk responded for the Moose (11-21-5) late in the first to make it 1-1.
Checkers goaltender Daniel Altshuller made 17 saves for the win as Eric Comrie turned away 24-of-28 shots for Manitoba.
Charlotte went 1 for 3 on the power play while the Moose failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
Checkers defenceman Keegan Lowe and Manitoba forward Darren Kramer picked up game misconducts for fighting after the final buzzer to end the game.
