WHL Roundup: Matt Bradley scores shootout winner as Tigers edge Blazers

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - Mark Rassell scored twice and added an assist in regulation and Matt Bradley had the shootout winner as the Medicine Hat Tigers got past the Kamloops Blazers 6-5 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Mason Shaw, Chad Butcher and Alex Mowbray supplied the rest of the offence for Medicine Hat (16-22-4).

Matt Needham had two goals and an assist for the Blazers (21-14-7). Matthew Campese, Jermaine Loewen and Deven Sideroff also chipped in.

Nick Schneider earned the win in net after coming on in relief of Mack Shields. Schneider kicked out 8-of-9 shots in 28:16 while Shields turned aside 12-of-16 shots in 36:44. Connor Ingram took the loss — making 31 saves.

The Tigers scored twice on five power plays with Kamloops converting once on four opportunities.

REBELS 1 WARRIORS 0 (OT)

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Ivan Nikolishin provided the game's only offence with a goal 1:19 into overtime as Red Deer shut out the Warriors.

Rylan Toth made 25 saves for the Rebels (29-13-2).

Zach Sawchenko kicked out 37 shots for Moose Jaw (22-15-6), which had a three-game winning streak ended.

HURRICANES 5 BRONCOS 2

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Justin Gutierrez and Brayden Burke had a goal and an assist each as Lethbridge beat the Broncos for its fifth-straight victory.

Ryan Vandervlis, Giorgio Estephan and Arvin Atwal rounded out the attack for the Hurricanes (31-12-0).

Tyler Steenbergen scored twice for Swift Current (12-26-5).

RAIDERS 3 OIL KINGS 1

EDMONTON — Reid Gardiner and Jordan Tkatch both had a goal and two assists as Prince Albert toppled the Oil Kings.

Simon Stransky also found the back of the net for the Raiders (25-14-4), who scored three times in the second period.

Colton Kehler responded with a goal in the third period for Edmonton (17-21-5).

WINTERHAWKS 4 PATS 1

PORTLAND, Ore. — Skyler McKenzie scored twice as the Winterhawks ended their three-game losing streak by toppling Regina.

Dominic Turgeon and Keoni Texeira added the others for Portland (21-19-2).

Adam Brooks opened the scoring for the Pats (19-19-6) in the first period.

THUNDERBIRDS 4 COUGARS 0

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Landon Bow turned aside all 26 shots he faced and Cavin Leth struck twice as Seattle shut out the Cougars.

Ryan Gropp and Jerret Smith also had goals for the Thunderbirds (23-15-3), who scored all their offence in the third period.

Ty Edmonds kicked out 24 shots for Prince George (26-16-2).

CHIEFS 9 BLADES 2

SPOKANE, Wash. — Hudson Elynuik had two goals and an assist as the Chiefs snapped a four-game skid with a win over Saskatoon.

Kailer Yamamoto scored once and added three assists while Curtis Miske had a goal and two assists for Spokane (20-17-5). Evan Fiala, Keanu Yamamoto, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Wyatt Johnson and Dalton Hamaliuk rounded out the attack.

Braylon Shmyr and Nolan Reid found the back of the net for the Blades (16-24-3).
