Patrick Roy practices with Avalanche for second time
Avalanche coach Patrick Roy got in some more practice Wednesday, taking shots from defenseman Brad Stuart and forward Chris Wagner.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- Colorado Avalanche coach Patrick Roy was in familiar territory Wednesday, moving back and forth in a crease at the Avalanche practice facility while wearing a goalie mask, pads and skates.

Roy, who won the Stanley Cup four times, and 551 regular-season games in 18 NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens and Avalanche, took turns with goalie Calvin Pickard taking shots from defenseman Brad Stuart and forward Chris Wagner.

2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series-Colorado tickets now on sale

There has been speculation that Roy, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006, could be back in net when the Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings alumni face off at Coors Field in Denver on Feb. 26 as part of the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. Colorado and Detroit will play The Stadium Series game on Feb. 27 at Coors Field.

"Not bad, it's getting there," Roy, 50, said of his workout. He also practiced with the Avalanche on Jan. 7.

"My second day today. It's coming. If I could lose 30 pounds, that'll help," he said, laughing.

The Avalanche and Red Wings played five times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs from 1996-2002 and combined to win the Stanley Cup five times.

"I think it's going to be fun going on the ice with these guys," Roy said about potentially playing in the game. "You never know how it's going to turn, but you know one thing, there's a lot of respect deep inside every one of us."

Roy last played an NHL game on April 22, 2003 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Avalanche against the Minnesota Wild. His NHL record 551 wins was later surpassed by Martin Brodeur.
