QMJHL Roundup: Wiederer leads Wildcats in win over Screaming Eagles

MONCTON, N.B. - Manuel Wiederer scored two goals, including the eventual winner on a power play in the third period, and added an assist to lift the Moncton Wildcats to a 5-4 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Joey Richard also had two goals for Moncton (28-10-5) while Conor Garland chipped in with a goal and an assist. Adam Holwell added three helpers.

Phelix Martineau struck twice for the Screaming Eagles (21-19-4). Massimo Carozza and Michael Joly rounded out the offence.

Blade Mann-Dixon stopped 21 shots in the win. Alexandre Belanger had 22 saves in a losing effort.

The Wildcats were 2 for 6 on the power play while Cape Breton scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

ISLANDERS 3 OCEANIC 1

CHARLOTTETOWN — Matthew Welsh stopped 26 shots and Bradley Kennedy had a goal and an assist to lead the Islanders over Rimouski.

Mitchell Balmas and Jake Coughler also scored for Charlottetown (16-21-5).

Tyler Boland had the lone goal for the Oceanic (24-13-4).

ARMADA 2 SAGUENEENS 1 (SO)

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Tyler Hylland and William Gignac scored in a shootout to lift Blainville-Boisbriand over the Sagueneens.

Daven Castonguay had the regulation-time goal for the Armada (15-21-6), 2:14 into the first period.

Nicolas Roy scored for Chicoutimi (19-17-5) 16 minutes later.

SEA DOGS 5 TITAN 2

BATHURST, N.B. — Adam Marsh had a goal and an assist as Saint John downed the Titan.

Daniel Del Paggio, Nathan Noel, Sam Povorozniouk and Matthew Highmore supplied the rest of the offence for the Sea Dogs (24-13-3). Spencer Smallman and Matt Paul both tacked on a pair of helpers.

Jeffrey Truchon-Viel scored both goals for the Acadie-Bathurst (16-22-4).

OLYMPIQUES 8 MOOSEHEADS 4

HALIFAX — Vitalii Abramov scored three times and added an assist as Gatineau routed the Mooseheads.

Yakov Trenin had two goals and two assists, while Alex Dostie tacked on four assists and Alex Breton added three helpers for the Olympiques (26-12-2). Alexandre Alain, Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau and Dylan Callaghan rounded out the attack.

Arnaud Durandeau, Kelly Bent, Maxime Fortier and Connor Moynihan found the back of the net for Halifax (14-21-6).

VOLTIGEURS 7 REMPARTS 4

QUEBEC CITY — Alex Barre-Boulet scored three times and tacked on an assist as Drummondville toppled the Remparts.

Gabriel Slight had a pair of goals for the Voltigeurs (19-22-1). Justin Guenette and Charley Graaskamp both had a goal and two assists.

Matthew Boucher scored twice, with Ross MacDougall and Bronson Beaton adding the others for Quebec (23-15-4).

Colby Tower of the Remparts received a game misconduct 10 seconds into the third period for spearing.

FOREURS 4 PHOENIX 2

VAL-D'OR, Que. — Francois Beauchemin had a pair of goals as the Foreurs doubled up Sherbrooke.

Anthony Richard and Anthony Beauregard also scored for Val-d'Or (31-8-3).

Jason Imbeault and Guillaume Gauthier found the back of the net for the Phoenix (15-21-6).
