PANTHERS MAKE IT 11 STRAIGHT

Roberto Luongo made 30 saves and Aleksander Barkov scored the eventual game-winning goal at 7:30 of the third period to lead the Florida Panthers past the Ottawa Senators 3-2 for their franchise-record 11th consecutive victory, the longest winning streak in the NHL since March 2-22, 2014 (BOS: 12-0-0).

* At 25-12-4 (54 points), the Panthers maintained a five-point lead over the Detroit Red Wings (21-13-7, 49 points) and moved five points ahead of the idle Montreal Canadiens (23-16-3, 49 points) for first place in the Atlantic Division, where the top six clubs are separated by 12 points.

* The Panthers have won five consecutive road games for the second time this season (Nov. 14 – Dec. 4, 2015) and third time in franchise history (also Nov. 30 – Dec. 12, 2008). However, this marks the first time they have won five straight road games all in regulation.

* Luongo extended his franchise record and established a career high with his ninth consecutive personal victory (1.31 goals-against average, .954 save percentage, two shutouts), the longest such run in the NHL this season. Two goaltenders had nine-game winning streaks in 2014-15: Jaroslav Halak (Nov. 5 – Dec. 4, 2014: 11-0-0) and Andrew Hammond (March 4-23, 2015: 9-0-0).

* Luongo won his 420th game to move within three of tying Tony Esposito (423) for seventh place in NHL history.

* Barkov scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season (31 GP) to match his total from his first 125 games. Barkov leads Florida with six goals, including three game-winners, and 13 points during its 11-game winning streak.

DID YOU KNOW?

* Panthers teammates Reilly Smith (12:01) and Vincent Trocheck (12:09) combined for two goals in eight seconds in the first period, one second shy of tying the franchise record for fastest two goals in a game. Viktor Kozlov established the mark on Feb. 10, 2004 vs. MTL when he scored at 1:43 and 1:50 of the second period in a 2-1 Florida win.

HOLTBY, OVECHKIN HELP CAPITALS HIT 30-WIN MARK

Braden Holtby (34 SV) and Alex Ovechkin (GWG) helped lead the Washington Capitals past the Islanders 4-1 in their first game since the opening round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs -- a seven-game series victory for Washington -- and to an 18-2-2 mark in their past 22 games dating to Nov. 21.

* At 30-7-3 (63 points), the Capitals continued their best start to a season in terms of wins and points in the franchise's 41-year history. They maintained a one-point lead over the Dallas Stars (29-10-4, 62 points) for first place in the NHL standings. Washington holds three games in hand.

* Via the Elias Sports Bureau, the Capitals are the first team to win at least 30 of their first 40 games in a season since 2012-13, when the Chicago Blackhawks (31-5-4) and Pittsburgh Penguins (30-10-0) achieved the feat. Washington recorded its 30th victory in its 57th game last season.

* With a win in their first visit to Barclays Center, the Capitals also improved to 11-2-3 in their past 16 regular-season road games against the Islanders dating to Oct. 8, 2007 (NYI: 5-5-6). They lead the League in road wins (15) and road points (32) this season.

* Holtby is 8-1-2 in 11 regular-season games against the Islanders (2.11 GAA, .936 save percentage). He extended his personal point streak to 20 consecutive decisions (18-0-2), the longest such run by any goaltender since 2010-11 (Roberto Luongo: 16-0-5).

* Holtby, who leads the League with 26 wins in 2015-16, earned his 127th career victory (all w/ WSH) to move within one of tying Don Beaupre (128) for second place in franchise history.

* Ovechkin (799 GP), who ranks fifth in the League with 22 goals this season (4 GWG), is three shy of 500 in his career.

FASTEST TO 500 GOALS (IN GP), NHL HISTORY

1. Wayne Gretzky: 575 GP

2. Mario Lemieux: 605 GP

3. Mike Bossy: 647 GP

4. Brett Hull: 693 GP

5. Phil Esposito: 803 GP

STARS EXTEND HOME WINNING STREAK TO KEEP PACE

Kari Lehtonen made 32 saves and denied two shootout attempts, and Patrick Sharp (0-1—1) scored the game-deciding goal to lead the Dallas Stars to a 2-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets, their fifth consecutive home win and longest such run since Oct. 30 – Nov. 18, 2010 (5-0-0).

* At the 29-10-4 (62 points), the Stars continued their best start to a season in terms of wins and points in the franchise's 49-year history.

* The Stars, who own a 9-1-0 record in their past 10 games at American Airlines Center, lead the League with 17 home wins this season (17-4-0, 34 points); that equals their total from 2014-15 (17-16-8, 42 points).

* Sharp extended his career-high point streak to 11 games (6-8—14), the longest active run in the NHL. He has 16-20—36 in his first 43 games with the Stars.

* Lehtonen, the No. 2 pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2002 NHL Draft, is 7-1-1 in nine games against the Jets/Thrashers franchise (1.95 GAA, .944 save percentage). He is 13-3-0 with a 2.72 GAA, .911 save percentage and one shutout this season.

* Tyler Seguin scored his 24th goal of the season to pull into a share of the League lead with teammate Jamie Benn and St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko.

TOP PACIFIC DIVISION CLUBS EARN WINS

The Los Angeles Kings (26-12-2, 54 points) and Arizona Coyotes (20-16-4, 44 points), the top two teams in the Pacific Division, each earned wins:

* Jonathan Quick made 25 saves, including 10 in the third period, to help the Kings defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 and improve to 6-1-0 in their past seven games. Quick, who ranks second in the NHL with 23 wins, extended his personal winning streak to six games (1.33 GAA, .955 save percentage, one shutout), his third such run this season (also Oct. 16-31 and Nov. 28 – Dec. 11)

* Stefan Elliott scored the go-ahead goal at 1:47 of the third period to lead the Coyotes past the Calgary Flames 2-1 for their first win at Scotiabank Saddledome since Feb. 23, 2012, snapping an eight-game losing streak (0-7-1). The Coyotes improved to 9-1-2 versus the Pacific Division this season, compared to a 12-17-0 mark against divisional opponents in 2014-15.

FINISH STRONG

The Philadelphia Flyers and Red Wings both earned wins off a pair of highlight-reel plays:

* Michael Del Zotto (2-0—2) finished a tic-tac-toe passing play with 37 seconds remaining in overtime to cap a 4-3 win against the Minnesota Wild and his second career multigoal game (March 30, 2012 w/ NYR), and help the Flyers halt a five-game road losing streak (0-4-1). Elias says Flyers defensemen have combined for four overtime goals in a season for the second time in franchise history (Shayne Gostisbehere: 3 and Del Zotto: 1). The other such instance: 2005-06 (Joni Pitkanen: 3 and Mike Rathje: 1). Overall, defensemen have scored 23 of 92 overtime goals in the NHL this season (25.0 %).

* Petr Mrazek made 35 saves, highlighted by an acrobatic stop that led to Justin Abdelkader's game-winning goal, to help the Red Wings defeat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 and earn their third straight win on the heels of an 0-3-0 run. Mrazek is 22-12-0 in 37 road games (2.18 GAA, .928 save percentage, five shutouts), compared to an 11-10-5 clip on home ice (2.27 GAA, .918 save percentage, two shutouts).

* Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr had the primary assist on the game-winning goal to move within four of becoming the sixth player in NHL history to record 1,100 career assists.
