Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere will not play Saturday against the New York Islanders (1 p.m. ET; MSG+, CSN-PH) because of a lower-body injury, Flyers general manager Ron Hextall said Friday.
Hextall said there would be a further update on Gostisbehere's condition Saturday.
Gostisbehere was injured late in the first period of the Flyers' 4-3 overtime win against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. He returned to play two shifts in the second period but left the game at 5:08 of the second and did not return.
In 23 games Gostisbehere leads rookie defensemen with seven goals and is tied for first with 16 points. He's also tied for second among all defensemen with three game-winning goals.
Since being recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League on Nov. 14, the Flyers are 12-7-4, averaging 2.48 goals per game and 17.9 percent on the power play; in 16 games before his arrival, they were 5-8-3, averaging 1.81 goals per game and 14.6 percent on the power play.
