Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price received a positive assessment Monday in his recovery from a lower-body injury sustained Nov. 25 against the New York Rangers from coach Michel Therrien. But Price isn't ready to start practicing yet.
"Carey Price's rehab is going well but he is not ready to get back on the ice just yet," Therrien told the Canadiens website.
On Nov. 30 the Canadiens announced Price would be out for six weeks; Monday marked five weeks since that statement.
Price missed three weeks at the beginning of November because of the injury. He returned to start three games in a six-day stretch. He won all three but left after the second period of a 5-1 win against the Rangers.
Last season's Hart and Vezina trophy winner is 10-2-0 with a 2.06 goals-against average and .934 save percentage in 12 games. The Canadiens are 5-11-1 since Price left the lineup for the second time and have struggled to get consistent goaltending.
Mike Condon has been the Canadiens' primary option during Price's absence; he's 11-9-3 with a 2.42 GAA and .907 save percentage in 26 games. Condon lost seven straight decisions during a nine-game stretch in December but has won his past two starts, including a 5-1 victory against the Boston Bruins on New Year's Day in the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Dustin Tokarski, recalled from St. John's of the American Hockey League at the time of Price's injury, is 1-3-1 with a 3.19 GAA and .878 save percentage in six games.
Ben Scrivens was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers for forward Zack Kassian on Dec. 28. Scrivens lost his Montreal debut the following night against the Florida Panthers and is scheduled to start Tuesday at the Philadelphia Flyers.
