Blackhawks trade Morin to Maple Leafs for Panik
The Chicago Blackhawks traded forward Jeremy Morin to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday for forward Richard Panik.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs traded forwards Sunday, with Chicago sending Jeremy Morin to Toronto for Richard Panik.

Morin, 24, has spent parts of the past five seasons with the Blackhawks before being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Dec. 14, 2014. He was reacquired by the Blackhawks on June 30, 2015, and had nine goals and 13 assists for Rockford of the American Hockey League this season.

Morin, a second-round selection (No. 45) by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2009 NHL Draft, has 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 82 NHL games.

Panik, 24, was playing with the AHL's Toronto Marlies after scoring 11 goals and finishing with 17 points in 76 games for the Maple Leafs in 2014-15. Toronto claimed him on waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 8. Panik, taken in the second round (No. 52) by the Lightning in the 2009 draft, has 39 points (19 goals) and 74 penalty minutes in 151 NHL games.

"I think it’s probably comparable for both players," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said, "healthy, fresh starts for both guys, proven guys who have had an opportunity in the NHL at some point in their careers."
