Maple Leafs acquire Jeremy Morin from Blackhawks for Richard Panik

TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs made a minor-league trade on Sunday night, acquiring forward Jeremy Morin from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Richard Panik.

Morin will join the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies, who beat the Syracuse Crunch 3-2 on Sunday afternoon after Panik scored the winner in overtime.

The 24-year-old Morin has skated in 82 NHL games with the Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets and has 10 goals and 22 points.

The Auburn, N.Y., native has played in 28 games with the Rockford IceHogs, Chicago's AHL affiliate, this season and has produced nine goals and 22 points.

Morin was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the second round (45th overall) during the 2009 NHL draft.

The 24-year-old Panik has 19 goals and 39 points in 151 career NHL games. The Martin, Slovakia native was demoted to the Marlies at the beginning of the year after spending last season with the Leafs and had nine goals and 25 points in 33 games for Toronto's farm team.
