TUESDAY AT A GLANCE

* Six of the 10 games Tuesday featured at least seven goals (BOS 7, OTT 3; NYI 6, TOR 3; CBJ 6, DAL 3; STL 4, NSH 3 (OT); LAK 5, EDM 2; and CHI 7, ARI 5).

* A total of 69 goals were scored in the 10 games, an average of 6.90 goals per game.

* Two players -- Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan and Boston Bruins forward Jimmy Hayes -- had hat tricks, each completed in the final 30 seconds of regulation (Hayes: 19:59 and Doan: 19:32).

* The Bruins (20-12-4, 44 points) and Montreal Canadiens (21-15-3, 45 points), who are separated by one point for first place in the Atlantic Division, each played their final game before they meet on Friday in the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The Bruins defeated the Ottawa Senators 7-3, while the Canadiens fell 3-1 to the Florida Panthers.

BRUINS CRUISE PAST SENATORS IN WINTER CLASSIC TUNE-UP

The Bruins snapped a three-game skid, split their home-and-home series with the Senators and won their final game before the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

* Hayes (Dorchester, Mass.) completed the first hat trick of his NHL career with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation to become the second Massachusetts-born player to have a hat trick for the Bruins in the last 11 days. Frank Vatrano (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also tallied 3-0—3 on Dec. 18 at PIT.

* Via Elias, the Bruins have had at least two Massachusetts-born players register a hat trick in the same season for the first time since 1989-90, when Andy Brickley (Melrose, Mass.), Bob Carpenter (Beverly, Mass.) and Bob Sweeney (Concord, Mass.) all accomplished the feat.

* Patrice Bergeron and Matt Beleskey each had 2-0—2 for the Bruins, who had at least three players score multiple goals in a game for the first time since Dec. 28, 2001 at FLA (Bill Guerin, Mike Knuble and Glen Murray: all 2 goals).

* Bergeron (36 GP) had multiple power-play goals in a game for the second time this season (also Oct. 17 at ARI: 2 PPG), equaling the number of times he accomplished the feat in his first 740 career games before the 2015-16 season.

* The Bruins (4-for-7, 57.1%) scored four power-play goals in a game for the first time since Oct. 3, 2009 vs. CAR (also 4 PPG). They lead the League in power-play goals (30) and power-play efficiency (29.4%) this season.

PANTHERS CAP BANNER MONTH AGAINST CANADIENS

Aleksander Barkov (2-1—3) factored on all three Panthers goals to help them match franchise records for consecutive wins overall (7-0-0) and consecutive wins at home (5-0-0) and hand the Canadiens a loss in their final game before they play outdoors on New Year's Day.

* The Panthers have won seven consecutive games for the fourth time in franchise history (also Nov. 2-14, 1995, March 17-29, 2006 and March 2-16, 2008). They have won five straight games on home ice for the first time since March 4-17, 2012 (seventh time in club history).

* Via the Elias Sports Bureau, the Panthers went 11-3-0 (22 points) in December to establish franchise records for wins and points in a calendar month.

* At 21-12-4 (46 points), the Panthers leapfrogged the Canadiens (21-15-3, 45 points) back into first place in the Atlantic Division, where the top six teams are separated by six points.

* Barkov, who had 2-0—2 on Sunday vs. CBJ, paces the Panthers with a career-high four power-play goals this season. He also shares their lead with 11 goals overall (tied w/ Jaromir Jagr and Reilly Smith).

* Barkov has 5-5—10 during the seven-game winning streak, including two three-point efforts (also Dec. 15 at NYI: 1-2—3). He had two three-point efforts in 145 games before this span.

CALIFORNIA CLUBS HALT ALBERTA STREAKS

The Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings halted home winning streaks for the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers, respectively. Anaheim became the first road team to win in Calgary since Oct. 30 (MTL: 6-2 W), and Los Angeles picked up the first win by a visiting team in Edmonton since Nov. 18 (CHI: 4-3 W OT):

* John Gibson made 14 saves for his fifth career shutout (third this season) in a 1-0 win that snapped the Flames' franchise-record home winning streak at 11 games, ending the longest such run by any NHL team since 2013-14 (PIT: 13-0-0 at CONSOL Energy Center). Shawn Horcoff (GWG) has scored 16 career goals against Calgary, tied for his highest total against one opponent (w/ COL).

* Trevor Lewis and Dustin Brown each had 1-2—3 to power the Kings to a 5-2 win and an 11-3-2 mark in their past 16 games, including three straight wins. They ended the Oilers' home winning streak at seven games, one shy of tying the franchise record. The Kings have earned at least one point in 29 of their past 31 games against the Oilers dating to Nov. 26, 2008 (22-2-7). That includes a 13-1-3 record at Rexall Place.

CENTRAL TEAMS GAIN GROUND

The St. Louis Blues (23-12-4, 50 points) and Chicago Blackhawks (21-13-4, 46 points), the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the Central Division, earned victories to gain ground on the first-place Dallas Stars (27-8-3, 57 points), who lost in regulation.

* Alexander Steen scored his third career overtime goal to lift the Blues to their sixth win in their past eight games, 4-3 against the Nashville Predators. St. Louis has won four straight at Scottrade Center. Jake Allen made 30 saves, including 17 in the second period, to improve to 18-8-2 in 2015-16 (2.08 goals-against average, .927 save percentage, five shutouts). He is 4-0-0 in five games against the Predators (1.97 GAA, .935 save percentage, one shutout). Steen's goal came after the Predators tied the game with two goals in the final 3:52 of regulation.

* Five different players had multiple points for the Blackhawks, highlighted by 1-2—3 from Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith, to help them defeat the Arizona Coyotes 7-5 and pick up their seventh win in their past nine regular-season games against Arizona dating to March 20, 2011 (ARI: 2-7-0). The Blackhawks scored seven goals in a game for the first time since Nov. 22, 2014 at EDM (7-1 W). Kane, who had his fifth game with at least three points in 2015-16, continues to lead the NHL with 22-31—53 (38 GP).

AROUND THE RINKS

* The New York Islanders had 13 different players record at least one point, led by 1-1—2 from John Tavares, Anders Lee and Frans Nielsen, to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 and earn a split of their home-and-home series. Tavares, a Toronto native, has 11-13—24 in 22 games against the Maple Leafs, including 7-12—19 in 12 games at Air Canada Centre.

* The Jets raced to a four-goal lead powered by multiple points from Bryan Little (0-3—3), Jacob Trouba (2-0—2), Blake Wheeler (0-2—2) and Drew Stafford (0-2—2), and closed the month of December with a 4-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings and a 6-1-0 record at MTS Centre. Little, who ranks second on the Jets with 14-18—32 this season (36 GP), had his 12th career three-point performance (third this season).

* Kyle Palmieri and David Schlemko scored in the third period as the New Jersey Devils rallied to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. Schlemko had the go-ahead goal with 3:05 remaining in regulation to help the Devils improve to 9-2-1 in their past 12 games against the Hurricanes dating to Oct. 17, 2009 (CAR: 3-8-1). Schlemko scored his second game-winning goal of the season (31 GP), after not having a GWG in his first 231 games.

* Brandon Dubinsky and Nick Foligno tied career highs with three assists as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the League-leading Stars 6-3 and halted a three-game skid. Columbus improved to 6-2-1 in nine games against Dallas since the 2012-13 season (DAL: 3-6-0).

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS

* Coyotes captain Shane Doan (3-0—3) scored his third goal of the game with 28 seconds remaining in regulation to complete his second career hat trick (also Jan. 7, 2012 vs. NYI) and tie Dale Hawerchuk for the most career goals in Coyotes/Jets franchise history with 379. Doan, who tallied twice with the man advantage, also inched closer to Hawerchuk for the franchise lead in two other categories: power-play goals (Hawerchuk: 122 PPG, Doan: 119 PPG) and points (Hawerchuk: 929, Doan: 915).

* Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr scored his 733rd career goal to move within eight of tying Brett Hull (741) for third place on the NHL's all-time list. Jagr extended his NHL record with his 131st career game-winning goal (second this season).

* Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo (27 SV) earned his 417th career win to move within six of tying Tony Esposito (423) for seventh place on the NHL's all-time list.

* Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno (0-3—3) eclipsed 300 career points (121-180—301).

* Bruins defenseman Torey Krug (29-71—100 in 195 GP) and Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner (23-77—100) each registered their 100th career point.

* Kings forward Michael Mersch, a fourth-round selection (No. 110) in the 2011 NHL Draft, scored his first career goal (9 GP).

* Ducks defenseman Shea Theodore, the 26th selection in 2013, made his League debut. Coyotes forward Laurent Dauphin, a second-round selection (No. 39) from 2013, also played his first NHL game. Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec (800) and Predators forward Colin Wilson (400) also played in milestone games.

* Goaltender Ben Scrivens (26 SV) made his debut with the Canadiens and played his first NHL game since April 11 at VAN (w/ EDM).

LOOSE PUCKS

The Bruins improved to 7-3-1 in their past 11 games at TD Garden, after starting the season with two wins in their first nine home games of the season (2-6-1) . . . Coyotes teammates Oliver Ekman-Larsson (0-3—3) and Tobias Rieder (0-3—3) established career highs for assists in a game . . . Stars captain Jamie Benn had an assist to push his point streak to six games (3-6—9) and become the second player to reach 50 points this season (23-27—50 in 38 GP). Via Elias, Benn is the first Stars/North Stars player to register 50 points in the team's first 38 games of a season since 1987-88 (Dino Ciccarelli: 38 GP) . . . Teammate Patrick Sharp (1-0—1) also extended his point streak to six (4-5—9) . . . Senators captain Erik Karlsson (0-1—1) extended his point streak to seven (3-6—9). He leads the NHL with 32 assists this season and is fourth with 41 points (37 GP) . . . Blue Jackets defenseman Kevin Connauton, who had 1-9—10 in 44 GP with the Stars, scored against his former club, his first goal since March 27 at CHI . . . Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk (0-1—1) extended his point streak to five (2-3—5) . . . Jonathan Quick of the Kings became the second goaltender to reach 20 wins this season (20-9-1, 2.20 GAA, .921 save percentage, three shutouts) . . . Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (33 SV) improved to 7-3-0 in his first 10 career appearances (2.01 GAA, .932 save percentage, one shutout) . . . The Kings scored three goals in a span of 96 seconds, including Tyler Toffoli's second consecutive game-winning goal.
