Sabres goaltender Lehner returns to practice
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner practiced Tuesday for the first time since sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the Sabres' season opener Oct. 8 against the Ottawa Senators.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner practiced Tuesday for the first time since sustaining a high-ankle sprain in the season opener Oct. 8 against the Ottawa Senators.

"I can pretty much do whatever, but I still have a little issue around my right post,” Lehner told the Sabres website. “Game-wise, I’ve been out, I don’t even know, around three months. It’s going to take a few days to get back in the swing of things and get back in the tempo and get back reading the pucks. I’ll take it day by day.”

After having a setback about eight weeks into his recovery, Lehner said he believes he's at 100 percent. He'll continue to practice and will eventually play rehab games for Rochester of the American Hockey League.

"How he's going to be going down repeatedly; it's going to happen, and to have it happen and respond and get confidence in being on his feet and doing it over and over again is part of the process for him," Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said.

Goalies Chad Johnson and Linus Ullmark have split time in Lehner's absence. Johnson is 7-3-2 with a 1.81 goals-against average and .932 save percentage since Nov. 1. Ullmark is 5-8-2 with a 2.60 GAA and .912 save percentage since being recalled from Rochester on Oct. 23.

"I've been impressed," Lehner said of Ullmark. "He's been a true professional; he's a really good guy. He's come in and embraced it and he's showed what he's capable of."
