WHL Roundup: Bleackley scores in OT, Red Deer beats Edmonton 5-4

RED DEER, Alta. - Conner Bleackley scored 1:26 into overtime as the Red Deer Rebels hung on to defeat the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings 5-4 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Ivan Nikolishin scored on a penalty shot and added two assists for the Rebels (24-12-0), who led 4-1 before Edmonton stormed back to force extra time with three straight goals.

Jake DeBrusk, Brandon Hagel and Adam Musil rounded out the offence for Red Deer.

Brett Pollock, Anatolli Elizarov, Lane Bauer and Kobe Mohr supplied the offence for the Oil Kings (14-19-4).

Rebels netminder Rylan Toth made 44 saves for the win as Patrick Dea kicked out 19-of-24 shots for Edmonton.

Red Deer went 2 for 4 on the power play while the Oil Kings scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

HITMEN 4 ICE 0

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Nik Amundrud stopped all 27 shots his way as Calgary handed Kootenay its 13th straight loss.

Jakob Stukel, Jorday Stallard, Taylor Sanheim and Carsen Twarysnki scored for the Hitmen (23-13-2).

Wyatt Hoflin turned away 29-of-33-shots for the Ice (6-29-2).

HURRICANES 5 TIGERS 4 (OT)

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Ryley Lindrgren's second goal of the game came 2:23 into overtime as Lethbridge slipped past the Tigers for its fifth win in a row.

Giorgio Estephan also struck twice for the Hurricanes (25-11-0), who got another goal from Justin Gutierrez. Jayden Sittler made 27 saves for the win.

Cole Sanford led the Medicine Hat (12-19-4) offence with a goal and two helpers. Matt Bradley, Mark Rassell and Max Gerlach added the others. Nick Schneider stopped 33 shots in defeat.

WINTERHAWKS 5 AMERICANS 4 (OT)

PORTLAND, Ore. — Caleb Jones scored on a penalty shot 2:19 into the extra period as the Winterhawks edged Tri-City.

Rihards Bukarts, Rodrigo Abols, Alex Schoenborn and Evan Weinger supplied the rest of the scoring for Portland (17-16-1) as Adin Hill made 21 saves for the victory.

The Americans (14-19-2) got goals from Jeff Rayman, Tyler Sandhu, Morgan Geekie and Parker Bowles. Evan Sarthough stopped 43-of-48 shots in a losing cause.

RAIDERS 6 BLADES 2

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Sean Montgomery and Brendan Guhle each had a pair of goals as the Raiders toppled Saskatoon for their third straight win.

Matteo Gennaro and Kolten Olynek added a goal and an assist apiece for Prince Albert (21-11-3), which got a 29-save performance from Ian Scott.

Nick Zajac and Connor Gay found the back of the net for the Blades (13-18-3), who have dropped three games in a row. Brock Hamm turned aside 33-of-38 shots in defeat.

CHIEFS 3 THUNDERBIRDS 0

SPOKANE, Wash. — Tyson Verhelst stopped 19 shots and Dominic Zwerger had a goal and an assist as the Chiefs shut out Seattle.

Curtis Miske and Hudson Elynuik also scored for Spokane (18-13-4).

Logan Flodell kicked away 25-of-27 shots for the Thunderbirds (19-12-3).

ROCKETS 2 BLAZERS 1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Tyson Baillie's goal at 8:50 of the third period broke a 1-1 deadlock and lifted Kelowna over the Blazers.

Kole Lind had a goal and an assist for the Rockets (26-9-1) as Jackson Whistle made 25 saves for the victory.

Nick Chyzowski kept Kamloops (17-12-4) from behing shut out. Connor Ingram turned aside 28-of-30 shots in defeat.

ROYALS 6 COUGARS 2

VICTORIA — Ryan Gagnon had a goal and an assist while Vladimir Bobylev and Dante Hannoun each chipped in with three helpers as the Royals downed Prince George.

Jack Walker, Alex Forsberg, Tyler Soy, Brayden Pachal and Jared Dmytriw also scored for Victoria (22-12-2) as Coleman Vollrath turned away 34 shots for the win.

Chase Witala and Kody McDonald hit the twine for the Cougars (21-12-2). Ty Edmonds started in net and gave up four goals 20 shots. Nick McBride stopped 11-of-13 shots in relief but took the loss.

WARRIORS 4 BRONCOS 0

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Zach Sawchenko made 36 saves and Dryden Hunt had a goal and two helpers as Moose Jaw blanked the Broncos.

Josh Brook, Tanner Jeannot and Noah Gregor also scored for the Warriors (18-12-5).

Travis Child turned away 19-of-23 shots for Swift Current (10-21-4), which dropped its fourth straight game.

WHEAT KINGS 6 PATS 3

BRANDON — Macoy Erkamps, Tyler Coulter and Jayce Hawryluk scored in a 49-second span late in the third to push the Wheat Kings past Regina.

Ty Lewis, Duncan Campbell and Reid Duke also found the back of the net for Brandon (22-11-3). Jordan Papirny made 23 saves for the win.

Adam Brook had a pair of goals Lane Zoblocki scored the other for the Pats (15-16-5), who are on a five-game slide. Jordan Hollet stopped 28 shots in defeat.

GIANTS 4 SILVERTIPS 2

VANCOUVER — Ryan Kubic stopped 32 shots and the Giants produced all of their offence in the second period en route to defeating Everett.

Ty Ronning, Matt Barberis, Owen Hardy and Alec Baer all scored in the second for Vancouver (13-19-5), including goals from Barberis and Hardy 26 seconds apart.

Patrick Bajkov struck twice for the Silvertips (19-12-2), who got a 27-save outing from Carter Hart.
