Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville did not disclose injuries during his pre-game press conference, but said forward Brandon Mashinter would play against his former team. Hossa, who played in Chicago's 3-2 shootout win at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, did not participate in pregame warm-ups.
The Blackhawks confirmed the injury moments after the game got underway Sunday.
Hossa has missed multiple morning skates the past week, but played in those games. Quenneville said his absences were not because of an injury.
Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw skated in Hossa's spot at right wing on the first line during pre-game line rushes.
Hossa has five goals and 11 assists in 31 games.
