Okposo will be out of the lineup Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes and Monday against the Anaheim Ducks. The Islanders then have five days off before returning to the ice against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 27.
Okposo told Newsday he is hopeful nine days off will allow him to get healthy.
"I don't want it to linger all year," he said.
Okposo's 26 points (eight goals) lead the Islanders.
