Blackhawks' Kruger has wrist surgery, out 4 months
Chicago Blackhawks forward Marcus Kruger had surgery Friday to repair a dislocation of his left wrist and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Marcus Kruger had surgery Friday to repair a dislocation of his left wrist and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

"The surgery went well," Blackhawks physician Dr. Michael Terry said. "We anticipate Marcus will return to hockey activities in approximately four months."

The timeline means Kruger could potentially return during the Stanley Cup Playoffs if the Blackhawks qualify.

Kruger appeared to sustain the injury going off balance into the boards 4:58 into the second period of a 4-0 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. He skated to the bench after the play before leaving for the locker room and not returning.

Kruger, 25, has one assist in 33 games this season. He is second to Jonathan Toews among regular centers on the Blackhawks in winning faceoffs at 49.9 percent and has been one of their top penalty-killers.

The Blackhawks on Friday recalled center Phillip Danault from Rockford of the American Hockey League. A first-round pick (No. 26) in the 2011 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old was scoreless in two NHL games for Chicago last season.
