Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid has taken the next step in his rehabilitation from a fractured clavicle, joining injured teammate Nail Yakupov for on-ice sessions, according to Sportsnet.
McDavid started skating early this week, according to the report, his first on-ice action since sustaining his injury Nov. 3. McDavid has not started working with a puck yet, and is skating under the supervision of Oilers skating coach David Pelletier.
McDavid, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, missed his 20th game Thursday, a 4-0 Oilers loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
There is no fixed date for McDavid's return, but Sportsnet reported he could begin on-ice activities with the Oilers by mid-January.
McDavid had five goals and 12 points in 13 games before the injury.
