Kane's recent point streak 'really impressed' Crosby
Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby said Wednesday he was "really impressed" with the 26-game point streak by Patrick Kane that allowed the Chicago Blackhawks forward to pass him for the longest streak by an active NHL player.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby said Wednesday he was "really impressed" with the 26-game point streak by Patrick Kane that allowed the Chicago Blackhawks forward to pass him for the longest by an active NHL player.

"It's not easy to keep putting those games together," Crosby told ESPN.com. "You could see there towards the end of it, you're just finding ways and you're trying to ride that wave as long as you can.

"What he was able to do, that consistency is not easy, so really impressed with him being able to do that. You need some bounces along the way, but it's pretty tough to do that."

Kane's streak was stopped at 26 in a 3-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. He had broken a tie with Crosby, who had a 25-game streak during the 2010-11 season.

Kane's is the longest in the NHL since Mats Sundin went 30 games for the Quebec Nordiques in 1992-93. It also is a record for a Blackhawks player and an American-born player.

Kane had 16 goals and 24 assists during his streak, which began with an empty-net goal Oct. 17 in Chicago's sixth game of the season.

He has scored a point in 29 of 32 games, and leads the NHL with 46 points, a 117-point full-season pace. Kane, and Dallas Stars forwards Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin each are on pace to score 100 points.

Crosby is the only player since 2011-12 to score 100 points in a season; he had 104 in 2013-14.

"Yeah, it would be nice for somebody to be there," he said. "It's not easy to get points, but it looks like some of those guys are definitely in the running to get there. So it would be nice to see 100 there."

Benn led the NHL last season with 87 points.
