Canadiens, Semin agree to terminate contract
Alexander Semin was placed on unconditional waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday with the purpose of mutually parting ways with the veteran forward.

Alexander Semin cleared unconditional waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday and the Canadiens announced they had mutually agreed with Semin and his advisers to terminate his working agreement.

Semin declined his assignment to St. John's of the American Hockey League after clearing waivers Tuesday.

The Canadiens signed Semin, 31, to a one-year contract worth $1.1 million on July 24 after he was bought out by the Carolina Hurricanes. He had one goal and four points in 15 games this season.

Selected by the Washington Capitals with the 13th pick of the 2002 NHL Draft, Semin is a seven-time 20-goal scorer and three-time 30-goal scorer. He has 239 goals and 517 points in 650 games in 11 NHL seasons.
