FAMILIAR FINISHES FOR RED WINGS, SENATORS

The Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators each overcame multiple-goal deficits in the third period to win in overtime. Via the Elias Sports Bureau, there have been 16 games this season in which a team rallied from a multi-goal third-period deficit to win.

* Gustav Nyquist (1-1—2) notched the primary assist on Justin Abdelkader's tying goal at 17:37 of the third period and then scored in overtime to help the Red Wings overcome a 4-2 deficit and extend a pair of streaks. Detroit improved to 5-0-3 in their last eight games at Joe Louis Arena and 7-0-3 in their last 10 overall; it's their longest such run since March 11 – April 3, 2010 (10-0-2).

* Via Elias, Nyquist also scored in overtime on Oct. 24 at the Vancouver Canucks, when the Red Wings last overcame a multigoal third-period deficit to win a game. His fourth career overtime goal helped Detroit tie the Calgary Flames for the League lead in wins after regulation (7) and wins in 3-on3 overtime (6) this season.

* Dylan Larkin (1-1—2, +2) ignited Detroit's rally with his 11th goal of the season to take sole possession of the rookie lead. He also leads the entire NHL with a plus-19 rating.

* Erik Karlsson (1-2—3) factored on all three unanswered goals for the Senators, including his second career overtime tally, to help Ottawa overcame a 2-0 deficit and improve to 6-1-2 in their last nine games at Canadian Tire Centre.

* Mike Hoffman tied the game with 36.2 seconds remaining in regulation to push his goal streak to four games, the longest active such run in the NHL. He has points in seven straight games (9-3—12). Via Elias, Hoffman also tied the game at 18:12 of the third period on April 7 vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins; that was the last time Senators overcame a multigoal third-period deficit to win.

* Karlsson had at least three points in a game for the fifth time this season (and for the second straight game). Karlsson (6-26—32) increased his lead as the top point-producing defenseman and also pulled ahead of Patrick Kane (16-25—41) for the League lead in assists.

DID YOU KNOW?

Shea Weber (3-0—3) scored his first career hat trick and the first ever by a Nashville Predators defenseman. Via Elias, Weber is the first NHL defenseman with a hat trick since Jan. 4, 2014, when former teammate Ryan Suter accomplished the feat with the Minnesota Wild (3-0—3 vs. the Washington Capitals). He is second on the Predators (and among NHL defensemen) with nine goals.

BRUINS EXTEND STREAK, CLOSE TRIP ON HIGH NOTE

Tuukka Rask (17 saves) registered his 29th career shutout and third this season to backstop the Boston Bruins to their eighth consecutive game with at least one point (6-0-2) and end their road trip through Western Canada with a victory (1-0-2).

* The Bruins have points in at least eight consecutive games for the third time in the last two seasons (also Dec. 29 – Jan. 15: 6-0-3 and Feb. 27 – March 14: 7-0-1).

* Rask is 4-0-2 with a 1.71 goals-against average, .941 save percentage and two shutouts in his last six games.

* The Bruins improved to 2-4-0 in six games with the Canucks since the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, but earned their first victory in Vancouver since Game 7 of that series (also a 4-0 victory). Brad Marchand (GWG) had 5-3—8 during that series and has 2-0—2 in seven career regular-season contests against the Canucks.

* Landon Ferraro (1-1—2), a native of Trail, British Columbia, had his first career multi-point effort; it came with his father, NHL alumnus Ray Ferraro, and other family members in attendance.

STREAK BUSTERS

Various streaks reached their end on Saturday:

* Mark Scheifele scored his second career overtime goal with 19.9 seconds remaining in the extra frame to halt the Washington Capitals' winning streak at six games and lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 4-1-0 record in their last five games at MTS Centre. Connor Hellebuyck made 37 saves, including 18 in the third period and overtime, to improve to 3-0-0 in his NHL career (0.97 GAA, .965 SV%).

* Jeff Skinner scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal at 12:28 of the third period, to help the Carolina Hurricanes halt a five-game losing streak in their head-to-head series with the Montreal Canadiens and earn their first regulation win against the Canadiens since Feb. 13, 2013 (2-8-0 since).

* The Toronto Maple Leafs scored four unanswered goals, two by Nazem Kadri (2-0—2), to halt a four-game skid in their head-to-head series with the St. Louis Blues. It was Toronto's first regulation win against the Blues since Feb. 6, 2007 at St. Louis (2-6-1 since). Former Blues Brad Boyes (1-0—1) and Roman Polak (0-2—2) connected on the game-winning goal.

* Former Flyers Sergei Bobrovsky (27 saves) and Scott Hartnell (1-2—3) helped the Columbus Blue Jackets end a three-game slide and snap Philadelphia's winning streak at four games. Nick Foligno (2-1—3) also had three points for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 8-1-0 in their last nine games in the head-to-head series dating to Dec. 21, 2013 (PHI: 1-6-2).

HOME SWEET HOME

The Minnesota Wild and Los Angeles Kings improved to 10-3-1 and 10-5-0 at home, respectively, to move into a tie for second in the League in home wins this season behind the New York Rangers (11):

* Devan Dubnyk (11 saves) and Darcy Kuemper (9 saves) combined to lead the Wild to their third straight win, and second consecutive shutout, in the first half of a home-and-home set with the Colorado Avalanche. Via Elias, Wild goaltenders combined for a team shutout for the first time in franchise history. Minnesota also improved to 6-1-0 with four shutouts in the head-to-head series with Colorado since the start of 2014-15. Matt Dumba scored his second straight game-winning goal; he shares the League lead among defensemen with three.

* The Kings scored a season-high five goals, four of them in the second period, to improve to 5-0-0 in their last five games at Staples Center. They also earned their first home win against the Pittsburgh Penguins since Nov. 5, 2009 (0-1-2). Jake Muzzin (1-2—3) equaled a career high for points in a game, while fellow blueliners Drew Doughty (1-1—2) and Christian Ehrhoff (1-0—1) also hit the back of the net. Via Elias, the Kings had at least three different defensemen score in the same game for the first time since March 17, 2007 vs. CBJ (Rob Blake, Jamie Heward, Lubomir Visnovsky and Mike Weaver).

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS

* Canadiens forward Daniel Carr (1-0—1), who signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2014, scored less than three minutes into his first NHL game. Hurricanes forward Phil Di Giuseppe, a second-round selection (No. 38) in the 2012 NHL Draft, made his NHL debut in the same game.

* Avalanche defenseman Francois Beauchemin (700), Bruins forward Brad Marchand (400) and Maple Leafs forward Nick Spaling (400) each played in milestone games.

* Hurricanes forward Joakim Nordstrom scored his second career goal and first since Oct. 11, 2013 vs. the New York Islanders (w/ the Chicago Blackhawks).

* Red Wings forward Brad Richards scored his first goal with the team (14 GP).

LOOSE PUCKS

Nikita Kucherov (2-0—2) and J.T. Brown (0-2—2) each had multiple points to help the Tampa Bay Lightning start their three-game California trip with back-to-back wins (they won 2-1 at the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday). The Lightning won their second straight meeting with the San Jose Sharks after going 2-9-0 in their previous 11 head-to-head matchups. … The Capitals (18-5-2, 38 points) had their six-game winning streak snapped, but picked up a point for the seventh straight contest (6-0-1). They pulled one point ahead of the idle New York Rangers (17-7-3, 37 points) for first place in the Metropolitan Division. … Despite losing in overtime, the Islanders extended their season-high point streak to seven games (5-0-2). … Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (1-1—2) has collected 4-4—8 in his past seven games. Teammate Chris Kunitz (1-2—3) has 1-4—5 in his past two games after posting 3-0—3 in his first 23 games. … Canadiens goaltender Mike Condon (26 saves) went behind his back to swat the puck from mid-air and preserve a 2-2 tie in the third period. … San Jose's Brent Burns (1-1—2) registered his eighth multiple-point game of 2015-16. He leads all defensemen with 10 goals. … Jets forward Blake Wheeler (0-1—1) extended his point streak to six games (1-5—6). Teammate Andrew Ladd scored for a third straight game. … Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom (2-4—6), Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien (1-5—6) and Kings forward Jeff Carter (1-4—5) all extended their point streaks to five games. … Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury (32 saves) denied Marian Gaborik on a third-period penalty shot. Goaltenders improved to 19-for-24 (79.2%) on penalty shots this season. … Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby made a season-high 34 saves but had his personal winning streak halted at a career-high eight games. … Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek (28 saves) debuted a new holiday-themed mask for December.
