Oilers' McDavid progressing ahead of schedule
Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid, who sustained a fractured clavicle earlier this month, is progressing ahead of schedule and could return to the lineup in January, according to Sportsnet.

Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a fractured clavicle sustained earlier this month, general manager Peter Chiarelli said Saturday.

McDavid has been working out in Toronto and will meet the Oilers on Monday when they play the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.

"I won't tell you what our schedule is," Chiarelli told the Oilers website. "He's been rehabbing, normal rehab. Maybe we put a conservative schedule on him and he's ahead. He's doing some exercises in the pool. He's doing some lifting exercises, not with his shoulders. He's working on his range of motion."

McDavid, who fractured his clavicle Nov. 3 after crashing into the boards in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers, had surgery and was expected to miss four months.

The 18-year-old No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft has yet to resume skating. He had five goals and 12 points in 13 games prior to the injury.

"He's feeling really good. He's getting treatment, working on different things," McDavid's agent, Jeff Jackson, told Sportsnet on Thursday. "He's one of those athletes, if he's told to do something he'll do it to the Nth degree. There are no shortcuts with this kid. He wants to get back as soon as he can. He hates watching, and he wants to be on the ice with his teammates as soon as he can. I know it's a cliché, but he hates it."
