RANGERS CONTINUE RECORD-SETTING START

Henrik Lundqvist (31 saves) earned his second shutout of the season to help the New York Rangers to their ninth consecutive victory on home ice.

* At 16-3-2 (34 points), the Rangers are off to their best 21-game start to a season – in terms of wins and points – in their 89-year history.

* Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Rangers have won nine consecutive home games for the first time since Nov. 10-Dec. 15, 1971.

* Lundqvist improved to 12-3-2 (1.74 GAA, .946 SV%, 2 SO) and is tied with Braden Holtby (WSH) for the League lead in wins. With a franchise-leading 57 career shutouts, Lundqvist trails only FLA’s Roberto Luongo (69) for the lead among active goaltenders.

* Lundqvist earned his 351st career win and tied Terry Sawchuk (351 w/ DET) for the third-most victories with one franchise in NHL history among goaltenders, trailing Tony Esposito (418 w/ CHI) and Martin Brodeur (688 w/ NJD).

GOSTISBEHERE NETS EARLY OVERTIME WINNER TO DOWN HURRICANES

After their 2-0 lead was erased in the third period, rookie Shayne Gostisbehere scored a power-play goal just 24 seconds into overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers ended a three-game losing streak (0-1-2).

* It was the first game-winning goal of Gostisbehere’s NHL career (7 GP).

* Claude Giroux (1-2—3) scored his first shorthanded goal of the season and had two assists for his first three-point game of 2015-16. Jakub Voracek (0-2—2) also had two assists.

* Michal Neuvirth (31 saves) improved to 5-2-1 in nine career appearances vs. CAR (2.56 GAA, .926 SV%, 1 SO).

RASK, BRUINS COMPLETE HOME-AND-HOME SWEEP OF MAPLE LEAFS

Tuukka Rask made a season-high 39 saves through 65 minutes and stopped all three shooters in the shootout as the Boston Bruins completed their home-and-home sweep of the Toronto Maple Leafs following their 2-0 victory at home on Nov. 21.

* Rask, who also had an assist, improved to 13-3-1 in 19 career regular-season appearances vs. TOR, the team that drafted him in the first round (No. 21) of the 2005 NHL Draft (1.80 GAA, .937 SV%, 2 SO).

* Brad Marchand (2-0—2) scored a shorthanded goal and an even-strength goal to extend his point streak to five games (5-1—6), which includes at least one goal in four straight to match a career high. Marchand leads the NHL with 17 shorthanded goals since he began his career in 2009-10.

* The Bruins improved to 7-2-1 in their past 10 regular-season games at TOR dating to Nov. 5, 2011 (TOR: 3-6-1).

AROUND THE RINKS

* Braden Holtby (33 saves) earned his first shutout of the season, and Dmitry Orlov scored the only goal of the game at 13:28 of the third period as the Washington Capitals improved to 6-2-1 in their past nine games. Holtby earned his fourth consecutive victory to improve to 12-4-0 this season (1.88 GAA, .926 SV%, 1 SO) and is tied with Lundqvist for the League lead in wins. The Capitals swept their season series with the Edmonton Oilers and improved to 9-1-1 in their past 11 home games vs. EDM dating to Nov. 8, 1997 (EDM: 2-8-1).

* Facing a 1-0 deficit, the Colorado Avalanche scored four unanswered goals to end a three-game overall losing skid (0-3-0) and a four-game losing streak at WPG dating to March 19, 2014 (0-2-2). Matt Duchene scored to extend his point streak to seven games (7-6—13), and Blake Comeau (1-1—2), Carl Soderberg (1-1—2) and Francois Beauchemin (0-2—2) each had multiple points. Semyon Varlamov (20 saves) earned the victory in his first appearance since Nov. 5 at ARI.

* Down 1-0 through 40 minutes, the St. Louis Blues score two unanswered goals, including the winner by Robby Fabbri with 6:34 remaining, to sweep their series with the Buffalo Sabres for the fourth straight season, improving to 8-0-0 in their past eight matchups vs. BUF dating to Feb. 18, 2011 (BUF: 0-7-1). Jake Allen made saves on 24 of 25 shots to improve to 10-4-1 (1.98 GAA, .932 SV%, 3 SO).

* Jonathan Quick made 33 saves as the Los Angeles Kings swept their season series with the Florida Panthers and improved to 12-2-0 in their past 14 games vs. FLA dating to Nov. 5, 2003 (FLA: 2-11-1). Quick improved to 7-2-0 in nine career appearances vs. FLA (1.72 GAA, .937 SV%, 1 SO).

* Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr had a power-play assist. Per Elias, he tied Nicklas Lidstrom (132-458—590) for 11th on the NHL’s all-time power-play points list (206-384—590).

* Panthers goaltender Roberto Luongo appeared in his 881st NHL game and moved within one of tying John Vanbiesbrouck (882 GP) for eighth on the League’s all-time games played list among goalies.

* Kings forward Marian Gaborik (900 GP), Rangers defenseman Keith Yandle (600 GP), Nashville Predators forward James Neal (500 GP) and Maple Leafs defenseman Roman Polak (500 GP) each skated in a milestone game.

* Forwards David Legwand (BUF) and Zac Rinaldo (BOS) each scored his first goal with his new team (18 GP each).
