Johnny Gaudreau scores 1:38 into overtime, Calgary beats Chicago 2-1

CALGARY - Johnny Gaudreau scored 1:38 into overtime Friday night and the Calgary Flames remained perfect in extra time with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Calgary has won all five of its games this season that have been decided in overtime, with a loss coming in the only game that went into a shootout.

The overtime was dominated by the Flames, who finally solved Scott Darling on their sixth shot of the extra period when Gaudreau collected his own rebound after a Chicago turnover and made a nifty deke to produce the winner.

Sean Monahan also scored for Calgary (8-12-1), which has won consecutive games for just the second time this season. The Flames, who open up a three-game Pacific road trip Tuesday in Arizona, have won four straight at the Saddledome.

Artem Anisimov scored his eighth for the Chicago (11-7-2), which had its three-game win streak halted. The Blackhawks fall to 4-2 in overtime. At 1-0-1 after two stops, Chicago's six-game road trip continues Saturday night in Vancouver.

The two teams were playing for the second time in less than a week. Chicago won 4-1 at the United Center last Sunday.

Tied 1-1 after 40 minutes, Calgary was the better team in the third, piling up 10 shots on goal before Chicago got its first one 11:30 into the period.

However, despite a 14-4 edge on the period and 31-19 advantage at the end of regulation, the game remained tied.

Calgary opened the scoring on Monahan's seventh goal at 15:05 when he backhanded a shot past Darling, who got his stick tangled up in the equipment of Mason Raymond.

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville, citing goaltender interference, challenged the call but it was upheld.

The Blackhawks answered back less than two minutes later on a another goal that would be challenged for the same reason but also was upheld.

Brent Seabrook's shot was stopped by Karri Ramo but Anisimov, directly in front of Ramo, spun and fired in the rebound.

Best save of the first period went to Ramo.

With Chicago buzzing around the Flames net, Marcus Kruger sent a backhand towards the empty net when Ramo, while lying on his stomach, threw up his blocker arm and knocked it out of the air.

Making his 10th start in a row, Ramo had 18 stops to improve to 6-7-0.

Darling, who beat Calgary on Sunday, had 35 stops to fall to 2-2-1.

Notes: Flames defenceman Kris Russell (upper-body) exited the game in the first period... Jiri Hudler (ill) did not play for Calgary. That meant Mason Raymond got a chance to play for the first time in six games.... Chicago was without Marko Dano (ill) and Teuvo Teravainen (upper-body)... Calgary has now scored first 13 times, which is tied for the league lead.
