PETRY, BEAULIEU LEAD CANADIENS TO TOP OF CONFERENCE STANDINGS

Defensemen Jeff Petry (2-0—2) and Nathan Beaulieu (1-1—2) each had two points as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the New York Islanders and improved to 15-4-2 (32 points).

* Montreal’s 15 wins and 32 points lead the Eastern Conference. The Canadiens also tied the Dallas Stars (16-4-0, 32 points) in terms of standings points for the best record in the NHL.

* Petry posted his first career multiple-goal game; Beaulieu had his first career multi-point game.

* In his first appearance since Oct. 29 at EDM, Carey Price made 33 saves to improve to 8-2-0 (2.11 GAA, .934 SV%, 2 SO). Per Elias, Price is the ninth goaltender in franchise history to earn eight or more wins in his first 10 games of a season. Last: Ken Dryden (8-1-1) in 1977-78.

* The Canadiens improved to 5-0-0 in their last five overall games vs. the Islanders dating to Dec. 23, 2014 (NYI: 0-5-0) and 5-0-0 in their last five road games vs. New York dating to March 21, 2013 (NYI: 0-4-1).

GAUDREAU, FLAMES CONTINUE OVERTIME MASTERY

Knotted at 1-1 through 60 minutes, Johnny Gaudreau (1-1—2) scored at 1:38 of overtime to give the Calgary Flames a home win against the Chicago Blackhawks.

* The Flames have excelled in the new 3-on-3 overtime format this season, winning five of six extra-time sessions and advancing to a shootout in the other:

DRAISAITL OFF TO A STRONG START FOR OILERS

Forwards Leon Draisaitl (1-2—3) and Taylor Hall (1-2—3) each had three points to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-1 victory against the New Jersey Devils, snapping a three-game losing streak (0-2-1).

* Draisaitl extended his career-high point streak to five games (4-6—10) and has 7-10—17 in his first 10 games since making his season debut on Oct. 29 vs. Montreal. Hall also extended his point streak to five games (3-5—8).

* Per Elias, Draisaitl is the first member of the Oilers to post 17 points in his first 10 player games of a season since Mark Messier (7-10—17) in 1989-90.

BLUE JACKETS REBOUND FROM SHUTOUT LOSS WITH A SHUTOUT WIN

After the Columbus Blue Jackets lost 3-0 at the Ottawa Senators a day earlier, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all 39 shots he faced as the Blue Jackets earned a shutout win of their own and won for the fourth time in five games.

* Per Elias, the Blue Jackets earned a shutout win a day after suffering a shutout loss for the third time in franchise history. The other instances: March 25 and 26, 2008 (3-0 L at the Nashville Predators and 4-0 W vs. Chicago, respectively) and April 1 and 2, 2003 (4-0 L at Philadelphia and 3-0 W vs. Minnesota, respectively).

* Bobrovsky had his first shutout of the season and his fourth consecutive victory. Bobrovsky is 6-1-0 in his past seven games following a 2-8-0 start to the season.

* Per Elias, Bobrovsky’s 39 saves were the most he has made in a regulation shutout win. The last Blue Jackets goalie to make 39 or more saves in a regulation shutout win was Steve Mason (45 saves) on Jan. 9, 2009 at Washington (3-0 W).

AROUND THE RINKS

* Down 1-0, Nazem Kadri scored the game-tying goal with 3:33 remaining in the third period and Joffrey Lupul had the decisive goal in the shootout as the Toronto Maple Leafs earned their fifth win in six games by defeating the Carolina Panthers. James Reimer made 33 saves through 65 minutes and stopped four of five shooters in the shootout to pick up his fifth straight win and stretch his point streak to seven games (5-0-2).

* Petr Mrazek made 35 saves and Dylan Larkin scored the game-winning goal at 6:08 of the second period to help the Detroit Red Wings improve to 7-0-0 in their last seven home games vs. the Los Angeles Kings dating to Dec. 17, 2011 (LAK: 0-6-1). Larkin has scored in three straight games and shares a four-player tie for second among rookies with seven goals. Larkin also tied Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues for the League lead among rookies with three game-winning goals.

KANE EXTENDS POINT STREAK TO 15 GAMES

Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane had an assist to extend his point streak to a career-high 15 games (10-15—25). Per Elias, Kane is the first Blackhawks player to record a 15-game point streak since Chris Chelios did so from Oct. 26-Nov. 28, 1995 (4-16—20).

* Kane has at least one point in 18 of Chicago’s 20 games this season. Overall, Kane has 13-18—31 to pace the NHL in goals, assists and points.

The Maple Leafs snapped a six-game winless streak at Carolina dating to Nov. 20, 2011 (0-5-1). ... Blue Jackets forwards Ryan Johansen (1-1—2) and Boone Jenner (1-1—2) each had a goal and an assist. ... Kings forward Jeff Carter (2-0—2) scored his first shorthanded goal of the season on a breakaway and added another goal at even strength. ... Kings forward Tyler Toffoli (0-1—1) stretched his point streak to a career-high six games (1-6—7). ... Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher (1-0—1) extended his career-high point streak to seven games (4-5—9). ... Islanders forward Brock Nelson (2-0—2) stretched his point streak to a career-high five games (5-3—8), which includes goals in a career-high four straight games. ... Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin made his NHL debut (13:30 TOI) ...
