Wheeler injured by Byfuglien shot at Jets practice
Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler left practice Friday after he was hit in the face by a shot from Dustin Byfuglien.

Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler left practice Friday after he was hit in the face by a shot from Dustin Byfuglien.

The Jets website said Wheeler "was in considerable pain, but did skate off on his own -- holding a towel to his face -- after being tended to by head athletic therapist Rob Milette."

Coach Paul Maurice said Wheeler was coherent, but it is unknown if he would be able to play Saturday against the Arizona Coyotes. An update on his condition is expected prior to that game.

Wheeler is tied for sixth in the NHL with 21 points entering games Friday.
