WHL Roundup: Babenko helps Hurricanes snap losing skid with win over Silvertips

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Egor Babenko scored twice in the second period as the Lethbridge Hurricanes snapped a three-game skid with a 4-3 win over the Everett Silvertips on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Cory Millette also had a pair of goals for the Hurricanes (13-8-0), who got 31 saves from Jayden Sittler.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Noah Juulsen, Devon Skoleski and Yan Khomenko found the back of the net for Everett (11-6-1). Mario Petit turned away 25 shots as the Silvertips had a three-game winning streak ended.

Lethbridge was 0 for 2 on the power play while Everett was scoreless on four chances with the man advantage.

WHEAT KINGS 6 TIGERS 2

BRANDON, Man. — Ivan Provorov and Reid Duke both had a goal and two assists as the Wheat Kings downed Medicine Hat.

Ty Lewis, Tanner Kaspick, Nolan Patrick and Duncan Campbell supplied the rest of the offence for Brandon (13-7-2).

James Hamblin and Chad Butcher scored for the Tigers (6-10-3).

Macoy Erkamps of the Wheat Kings was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for boarding at 13:17 of the third period.

HITMEN 3 COUGARS 1

CALGARY — Jake Bean and Layne Bensmiller scored early in the third period as the Hitmen beat Prince George for their third-straight win.

Keegan Kanzig tied the game 1-1 for Calgary (12-10-1), which scored three consecutive goals to end the game.

Jansen Harkins opened the scoring for the Cougars (10-9-1) in the first.

ROCKETS 4 BLAZERS 3 (OT)

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Rodney Southam scored the overtime winner as Kelowna slipped past the Blazers.

Tanner Wishnowski, Tomas Soustal and Kole Lind had goals in regulation for the Rockets (15-5-1).

Collin Shirley struck twice for Kamloops (9-8-2), which have now picked up at least a point in eight-straight games. Garrett Pilon added the other.

ROYALS 6 OIL KINGS 3

VICTORIA — Matthew Phillips completed a hat trick in a four-goal third period for the Royals as they toppled Edmonton.

Dante Hannoun, Logan Fisher and Regan Nagy also chipped in for Victoria (15-7-1).

Kobe Mohr, Lane Bauer and Dysin Mayo scored for the Oil Kings (8-12-3).

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Parker Bowles scored the winner as the Americans edged Swift Current.

Nolan Yaremko opened the scoring with his first of the season for Tri-City (8-12-1).

Glenn Gawdin had a power-play goal for the Broncos (8-12-2).
