EKBLAD (AGAIN) PROVIDES LATE HEROICS IN MILESTONE WIN FOR LUONGO

Aaron Ekblad scored the lone goal with 20.2 seconds remaining in regulation, and Roberto Luongo made saves on all 39 shots he faced to help the Florida Panthers sweep their home-and-home series with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

* Ekblad also scored the tying goal at 19:22 of the third period Saturday at Tampa Bay in an eventual 5-4 win for the Panthers. Via the Elias Sports Bureau, the last player to score a tying or go-ahead goal in the final minute of regulation in consecutive team games was Dany Heatley on March 17 and 19, 2003 (w/ ATL) – he broke a 2-2 tie in a 3-2 W vs. CBJ and two nights later evened the score in an eventual 5-4 OT loss vs. DAL.

* Ekblad has 3-1—4 in his past four games after beginning with 1-2—3 in his first 14 games this season.

* Elias adds the Panthers are the first team to score a tying or go-ahead goal in the final minute of regulation in consecutive games since the Buffalo Sabres accomplished the feat on Feb. 25, 2014, vs. CAR (3-2 W) and Feb. 26, 2014, vs. BOS (5-4 W OT). Christian Ehrhoff scored the go-ahead goal at 19:16 of the third period in the first game, and the following night, Matt Moulson scored the tying goal at 19:07 of the third period.

* Luongo earned his 407th win to tie Glenn Hall for eighth place on the NHL’s all-time list. The victory came in his 878th career game, four shy of tying John Vanbiesbrouck (882 GP) for eighth all-time.

* Luongo also earned his 69th career shutout (first this season), which ranks first among active goaltenders -- 13 more than the next-closest goalie (Henrik Lundqvist: 56). The 39 saves were his highest total in a shutout since Feb. 7, 2006, at WSH w/ FLA (44 SV, 5-0 W).

DESHARNAIS (AGAIN) NOTCHES WINNER TO COMPLETE MONTREAL'S COMEBACK

The Montreal Canadiens scored four unanswered goals – including the tying goal by Tomas Fleischmann at 16:52 of the third period and the overtime winner by David Desharnais – to overcome a 3-0 deficit and improve to 8-1-1 at Bell Centre this season. Overall, the Canadiens (14-3-2, 30 points) are tied with the New York Rangers (14-2-2, 30 points) for the top spot in the NHL standings.

* Via Elias, the Canadiens overcame a three-goal deficit to win in regulation or overtime for the first time since April 4, 2014, at OTT. In that game, the Canadiens scored seven consecutive goals – powered by 3-2—5 from Max Pacioretty – to rally from an early 3-0 deficit for an eventual 7-4 victory.

* Desharnais scored his third game-winning goal of the season – all in Montreal’s past three victories (also Nov. 5 vs. NYI and Nov. 7 vs. BOS). The overtime winner was the fourth of his career.

* Playing in his 600th NHL game, Fleischmann (1-1—2) also had an assist in overtime. He has 5-8—13 in his first 19 games with the Canadiens.

* The Canadiens are 6-0-1 in their past seven games against the Vancouver Canucks at Bell Centre dating to Feb. 24, 2009 (VAN: 1-5-1).

TATAR HELPS RED WINGS WITHSTAND THIRD-PERIOD RALLY IN OTTAWA

Ahead 3-1 after 40 minutes, the Detroit Red Wings yielded two third-period goals – including the tying goal by Bobby Ryan with 2:48 remaining – before Tomas Tatar scored 2:04 into overtime to lift the Red Wings to a 3-1 record in the extra frame this season.

* It was Tatar’s first game-winning goal of 2015-16 and the first overtime goal of his career (200 GP). Last season, he led the Red Wings and established career highs in goals (29) and game-winning goals (7).

* Gustav Nyquist (1-1—2), who scored in regulation and had the lone assist on the overtime winner, leads the Red Wings with 4-11—15 in 18 games this season.

AROUND THE RINKS

St. Louis Blues forward David Backes (2-1—3), New York Islanders teammates John Tavares (2-1—3) and Kyle Okposo (0-3—3) and Anaheim Ducks forward Carl Hagelin (1-2—3) each had three points to guide their team to victory:

* Backes factored on all three Blues goals to help them end a two-game skid and improve to 12-1-2 in their last 15 games against the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers dating to Oct. 30, 2010 (WPG/ATL: 3-8-4). Backes had at least three points in a game for the 12th time in his NHL career. Vladimir Tarasenko (1-1—2) had his sixth multipoint game of the season, including two such performances against the Jets (also Oct. 18 at WPG: 2-0—2).

* Tavares and Okposo each had three points to help the Islanders improve to 5-0-1 in their past six home games against the Arizona Coyotes dating to Dec. 13, 2007 (ARI: 0-5-1). Tavares (9-8—17), who leads the Islanders in goals and points, scored the 34th game-winning goal in the NHL (third this season); the Islanders improved to 6-0-1 when their captain scores this season. Okposo (4-12—16), who equaled a career high for assists in one game, leads New York with 12 assists in 2015-16.

* Hagelin matched a career high for points in one game to help the Ducks improve to 8-1-1 in their past 10 games against the Hurricanes dating to Nov. 30, 2008 (CAR: 2-5-3). Hagelin, who had 1-1—2 in his first 17 games with the Ducks, had his first three-point performance since March 14, 2014, when he had his first NHL hat trick at WPG (w/ NYR). Anton Khudobin (24 SV), who compiled a 27-31-7 record in 70 games with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2013-15, earned the victory in his first appearance against Carolina since a trade at the 2015 NHL Draft.

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS

* Hurricanes defenseman Noah Hanifin, the fifth pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, scored his first career goal (15 GP). At 18 years, 295 days, Elias says Hanifin is the youngest defenseman to score a goal with the Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise. The only other defensemen to score a goal with the franchise before his 19th birthday: Mickey Volcan (2x in 1980-81), Sylvain Cote (2x in 1984-85) and Dana Murzyn (1x in 1985-86).

* Coyotes captain Shane Doan played in his 1,412th career game to surpass Harry Howell (1,411 GP) for sole possession of 30th place on the NHL’s all-time list.

* Ducks forward Nick Ritchie (4 hits, 10:39 TOI), the 10th pick in the 2014 draft, and Canucks forward Hunter Shinkaruk (1 hit, 9:35 TOI), the 24th pick in the 2013 draft, each made his League debut.

* Islanders defenseman Marek Zidlicky played in his 800th NHL game.

* Canucks forward Daniel Sedin (1-0—1) moved within two points of 900 in his NHL career (333-565—898).

LOOSE PUCKS

Pacioretty (2-4—6), Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher (3-4—7) and Panthers forward Jonathan Huberdeau (1-4—5) each extended his point streak to five games . . . Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin (1-0—1) and Blues defenseman Colton Parayko (0-1—1) each has 5-7—12 this season, tied for third place in rookie scoring . . . Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan (3-4—7) has a point in six straight games . . . Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf (1-1—2) scored his first goal of the season (14 GP) . . . Canadiens goalie Mike Condon (23 SV) rebounded from consecutive losses to improve to 7-1-2 in his first 10 career appearances (2.14 GAA, .918 SV%) . . . Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (0-1—1) extended his career-high point streak to six games (2-4—6) . . . The Islanders and Panthers each honored the victims of the recent tragedy in Paris before their game . . .
