NHL teams pay tribute to victims of Paris attacks
Teams around the NHL showed their support for Paris on Saturday, one day after attacks in the city killed more than 100 people.

Teams around the NHL showed their support for Paris on Saturday, one day after attacks in the city killed more than 100 people.

There was a moment of silence at Canadian Tire Centre prior to the New York Rangers' 2-1 win against the Ottawa Senators. "La Marseillaise," the French national anthem, was played before "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "O Canada."

Each of the 12 arenas hosting an NHL game Saturday night will have a moment of silence during pregame. Some will also play "La Marseillaise," including Bell Centre, where the Montreal Canadiens host the Colorado Avalanche.

Many players took to social media to honor the victims. Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr held a sign with a heart around the Eiffel Tower in the locker room after their morning skate.

There were several attacks across the city Friday, including one at a concert hall and another at the national soccer stadium, where France was hosting Germany in an exhibition match. Bombs and guns were used in the attacks; more than 120 people were killed and more than 350 were injured, officials said.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel each wore a a French flag on his helmet. Bellemare was born and raised in the French capital and said Saturday his sister lives there. He said he reached her Friday and she was not in danger.

"At first you're shocked," Bellemare said. "You don't expect those things to happen. It's terrible. You get kind of sad about what's going on. You just try to give support to the people you know. Mostly you kind of worry about family and friends."

On Friday, the League issued a security advisory for its teams.
