OHL Roundup: Giugovaz makes 27 saves, Spitfires blank slumping Storm 4-0

GUELPH, Ont. - Michael Giugovaz stopped all 27 shots his way and Logan Stanley's second-period goal was all Windsor needed as the Spitfires cruised to a 4-0 victory over the host Guelph Storm on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Stanley put the Spitfires (12-4-3) ahead 1-0, 10:13 into the second, and Cristiano DiGiacinto and Aaron Luchuk added a goal apiece to make it a three-goal lead after 40 minutes.

Jalen Chatfield rounded out the Windsor offence with a goal at 10:26 of the third while Logan Brown tacked on two assists.

Justin Nichols kicked out 34-of-38 shots for the Storm (2-14-1), who have just one win in their last 12 games and sit last in the league.

With just five seconds remaining in regulation, three fights broke out — including both goaltenders going at it. In the end, Windsor's Chatfield and Guelph's Luke Burghardt received fighting majors while Giugovaz, Nichols, Stanley and Storm winger Givani Smith were assessed game misconducts for being the second, and third fight on the same play.

The Spitfires went 0 for 1 on the power play while Guelph failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.

FIREBIRDS 4 GENERALS 3 (SO)

FLINT, Mich. — Will Bitten scored once and set up two more in regulation and Mathieu Henderson added the shootout winner as the Firebirds edged Oshawa.

Nicholas Caamano and Villi Saarijarvi also scored for Flint (7-9-1) while Ryan Moore chipped in with three assists. Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves for the win.

Domenic Commisso and Michael Dal Colle each had a goal and two assists for the Generals (9-8-3) and Joe Manchurek scored the other. Jeremy Brodeur stopped 28 shots in defeat.

STING 3 SPIRIT 1

SARNIA, Ont. — Draft eligible defenceman Jakob Chychrun scored once and Justin Fazio made 20 saves as the Sting toppled Saginaw.

Ryan McGregor and Jeff King also scored for Sarnia (10-5-2), which outshot the Spirit 19-2 in the first period.

Keaton Middleton supplied the offence for Saginaw (8-8-2). David Ovsjannikov turned away 32 shots in a losing cause.
