Blues forward Fabbri to stay in NHL for rest of season
Forward Robby Fabbri will remain with the St. Louis Blues for the remainder of the season, the Blues announced Sunday.

Forward Robby Fabbri will remain with the St. Louis Blues for the remainder of the season, the Blues announced Sunday.

Fabbri was given the news by general manager Doug Armstrong during the flight home from Nashville after the Blues' 4-0 victory against the Nashville Predators.

"He [Armstrong] told me that they're going to keep me for the year," Fabbri said in a video posted on the Blues website. "That's just the beginning. I have to keep going. But it's something I've been waiting for a while, just great to get the news."

Fabbri said he would be moving into a home with teammate Joel Edmundson.

Fabbri, 19, has two goals and one assist in eight games this season; he missed six games last month because of a concussion. He was selected by the Blues with the 21st pick of the 2014 NHL Draft. He nearly made the Blues to start last season but instead was returned to his junior team, the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League, and had 21 goals and 50 points in 30 games. He also had six points in five games to help Canada win the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. He finished last season playing with the Chicago Wolves, the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate.

Players are allowed to skate in nine games before teams must decide to keep them or return them to their junior team; Fabbri's ninth game will be Tuesday at the New Jersey Devils, and his 10th game is Thursday at the New York Rangers. Once a junior-eligible player skates in his 10th game, his entry-level contract starts; they can still be returned to junior after that but cannot be recalled until their junior team's season is over.
