STARS MATCH BEST START TO A SEASON IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

Antoine Roussel (1-2—3) posted a career-high three points, including the game-winning goal at 13:33 of the third period, to help the Dallas Stars improve to 9-2-0 by defeating the San Jose Sharks.

* Per Elias, the Stars equaled their best start to a season in franchise history through the first 11 games (also 9-2-0 in 2006-07 and 1996-97).

* Vernon Fiddler (1-2—3) equaled a career-high with three points (Last: 2-1—3 on April 9, 2013 vs. the Los Angeles Kings).

* Patrick Sharp (1-1—2) has scored in three straight games (4-1—5) and has 5-3—8 in his last six games vs. San Jose. Tyler Seguin (1-1—2) is tied for the League-lead with 11 assists and has 6-4—10 in nine career games vs. the Sharks.

* Antti Niemi made 26 saves in his first career regular-season appearance against his former club and improved to 6-1-0 (2.61 GAA, .915 SV%, 1 SO).

FLEURY, PENGUINS SHUT OUT MAPLE LEAFS

Marc-Andre Fleury denied all 21 shots he faced and four Pittsburgh Penguins found the back of the net to shut out the Toronto Maple Leafs.

* Fleury had the 40th shutout of his career. Fleury ranks third among active goaltenders in shutouts, trailing only Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers (68) and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers (55).

* Fleury, who also was credited with his 14th career assist, posted a shutout AND an assist in the same game for the second time in his career (also Oct. 25, 2014 at the Nashville Predators). Per Elias, Fleury is the first goaltender in franchise history to post a shutout AND an assist in the same game multiple times.

* Elias adds that in addition to Fleury, only four other goaltenders in franchise history have posted a shutout AND an assist in the same game. The others: Tomas Vokoun (March 28, 2013 vs. the Winnipeg Jets), Tom Barrasso (Nov. 14, 1998 vs. Florida), Wendell Young (Nov. 14, 1989 vs. the Rangers) and Les Binkley (March 25, 1970 vs. the Minnesota North Stars).

* Eric Fehr (1-1—2) scored a shorthanded goal in his Penguins debut. Per Elias, he became the second player in franchise history to score a shorthanded goal in his team debut. The other: Sergei Zubov on Oct. 7, 1995 vs. Toronto.

* The Penguins improved to 7-0-0 in their last seven games vs. Toronto dating to Nov. 27, 2013, including a 3-0-0 record at the Air Canada Centre.

KINGS EARN SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

Jeff Carter scored on a breakaway with 17.4 seconds remaining in overtime to power the Kings to their seventh straight victory following a 0-3-0 start to the season. The Kings have also won four consecutive games on home ice.

* Tyler Toffoli (2-0—2) score his eighth and ninth goals of the season to move into a tie with Dallas’ Jamie Benn for the League lead.

* Jonathan Quick made 31 saves to earn his sixth consecutive win. Quick has a 1.31 goals-against average, a .955 save percentage and one shutout during his winning streak.

* The Kings snapped a five-game winless streak vs. Nashville dating to Nov. 2, 2013 (0-3-2).

AROUND THE RINKS

* Michael Frolik (3-0—3) had his first career hat trick, which included scoring the game-winner with 8.7 seconds left in regulation, to lead the Calgary Flames past the Edmonton Oilers. Per Elias, Frolik’s goal was the fourth-latest regulation game-winning goal in franchise history, after Jarome Iginla (0:04 remaining) on Feb. 12, 1999 vs. the Boston Bruins, Cory Stillman (0:04 remaining) on April 14, 1999 at the Vancouver Canucks and Gary Suter (0:08 remaining) on Dec. 31, 1987 vs. the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flames improved to 7-0-0 in their last seven games at Edmonton dating to April 13, 2013.

* The Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning to extend their point streak to seven games (6-0-1) and improve to 5-0-0 on the road this season. All five wins have come in regulation. Per Elias, the Bruins opened a season with five consecutive regulation road wins for the second time in franchise history (also 2010-11). The Bruins improved to 4-1-1 in their last six games at Tampa Bay dating to Feb. 21, 2013.

* Evgeny Kuznetsov scored at 3:44 of overtime to help the Washington Capitals improve to 8-2-0. Per Elias, the Capitals equaled their best start to a season in franchise history through the first 10 games (also 8-2-0 in 2011-12 and 1991-92). The Capitals improved to 12-0-2 in their last 14 games vs. Florida dating to Feb. 7, 2012, which includes a 5-0-2 record on the road.

* David Backes opened the scoring at 2:47 of the first period and got the game-winner with 33.6 seconds remaining in overtime to help the St. Louis Blues improve to 4-0-1 in their first five home games. The Blues also improved to 12-4-0 in their last 16 regular-season games vs. the Minnesota Wild dating to Jan. 14, 2012, which includes a record of 6-1-0 at home.

* Mike Cammalleri scored the deciding goal in the shootout to help the New Jersey Devils snap a six-game winless streak vs. the New York Islanders dating to March 29, 2014 (0-2-4). In his eighth straight start, Cory Schneider made 24 saves through 65 minutes and denied three of four shooters in the shootout to improve to 6-2-1 (2.17 GAA, .919 SV%). The Devils improved to 6-1-0 in their last seven games after starting 0-3-1.

* Petr Mrazek made 33 saves to help the Detroit Red Wings avoid a home-and-home sweep at the hands of the Ottawa Senators. Five Red Wings scored, including rookie Dylan Larkin who netted his first career game-winning goal 39 seconds into the final period. Larkin has 3-5—8 in his first 11 games and is tied for fourth in points among rookies.

* Blake Wheeler (1-1—2) and Bryan Little (1-1—2) each posted multiple points to help the Winnipeg Jets improve to 7-3-1. Wheeler has 6-8—14 in his first 11 games of the season and Little has 1-3—4 in his last two outings. The Jets improved to 4-1-0 on the road this season.

MILESTONES & BENCHMARKS

* Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg (0-2—2) became the seventh player in franchise history to record 500 assists and 800 points (299-501—800).

* Senators forward Bobby Ryan scored to record the 400th point of his NHL career (192-208—400).

* New Jersey defenseman John Moore scored his first goal as a member of the Devils (10 GP). Pittsburgh forward Matt Cullen (1-1—2) scored his first goal as a member of the Penguins (11 GP).

* Stars defenseman Jason Demers (1-1—2) and Sharks forward Matt Nieto both scored their first career shorthanded goals. Oilers defenseman Brandon Davidson scored the first power-play goal of his NHL career (17 GP).

* Jets forward Drew Stafford (600 GP), Jets defenseman Tyler Myers (400 GP), Panthers forward Derek MacKenzie (400 GP) and Lightning defenseman Jason Garrison (400 GP) all skated in milestone games.

* Jets forward Andrew Copp scored the first goal of his NHL career (12 GP).

* New Jersey forward Bobby Farnham (1-1—2) had the first points of his NHL career (15 GP) in his Devils debut. Farnham was claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh on Oct. 26.

Islanders forward Frans Nielsen scored his 39th career shootout goal and shares a five-way tie for second on the NHL’s all-time shootout goals list. He’s one shy of Jonathan Toews (40) for the all-time lead. ... Stars defenseman John Klingberg (0-2—2) extended his career-high point streak to seven games (2-7—9). Per Elias, Klingberg’s point streak is the longest by a Stars defenseman since Sergei Zubov posted a nine-game point streak from March 24-April 15, 2006 (3-7—10). ... Bruins forward Brett Connolly (1-0—1) extended his career-high point streak to six games (4-2—6). ... Bruins forward Brad Marchand (1-1—2) extended his point streak to six games, equaling a career-high (5-4—9). ... Wild forward Jason Zucker (1-0—1) extended his career-high point streak to six games (3-4—7). ... Wild forward Thomas Vanek (0-1—1) extended his point streak to six games (2-5—7). ... Oilers forward Taylor Hall (1-2—3) extended his point streak to five games, which includes three consecutive multiple-point games (3-6—9). ...
