Islanders' Hickey to miss at least one month: report
New York Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey is expected to miss at least one month because of a lower-body injury, Newsday reported Monday.

NEW YORK -- New York Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey is expected to miss at least one month because of a lower-body injury, Newsday reported Monday.

Hickey, who sustained the injury during a 3-2 overtime win at the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, missed the first four games of the season because of a lower-body injury sustained in a preseason game Sept. 28.

He was placed on injured reserve Monday.

"He's hands-down one of the guys we rely on back there," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said at Barclays Center on Monday morning. "He's a veteran guy and he goes under the radar a little bit. I've always said he takes hits, he makes plays. He's a smart, intelligent player. He breaks the puck out extremely well. In today's NHL, you need guys like that on the back end."

Hickey had two goals in four games since returning from his previous injury. The Islanders could recall Ryan Pulock, their first-round pick (No. 15) in 2013, from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. Pulock started the season with New York but did not crack the lineup.

"It's going to give a chance for other guys to come in and do the job, but it's a big loss for our hockey club," Capuano said.
