WHL: Babenko nets two as Hurricanes beat Oil Kings for sixth straight win

EDMONTON - A big third period led the Lethbridge Hurricanes to victory on Saturday night.

Egor Babenko scored his second of the game on the power play as the Hurricanes had three goals in the third to beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 4-3 in Western Hockey League action.

It was the sixth straight victory for Lethbridge (8-2-0).

Andrew Nielsen and Arvin Atwal also found the back of the net in the third for the Hurricanes. Stuart Skinner made 38 saves in net.

Chance Patterson, Andrew Koep and Colton Kehler supplied the offence for Edmonton (3-7-2) in the second period. Patrick Dea turned aside 22 shots as the Oil Kings dropped their sixth in a row.

The Hurricanes scored twice on five power-play opportunities while Edmonton was 1 for 4.

RED DEER, Alta. — Ivan Nikolishin struck twice as the Rebels won their fifth straight by slipping past Kootenay.

Grayson Pawlenchuk and Braden Purtill rounded out the attack for Red Deer (10-4-0).

Luke Philp had two goals for the Ice (2-11-1) with Vince Loschiavo adding the other.

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Landon Bow kicked out all 25 shots he faced as the Broncos ended a four-game losing skid by blanking Moose Jaw.

Glenn Gawdin led the attack offensively with two goals and an assist for Swift Current (5-6-2). Jon Martin also scored.

Zach Sawchenko made 32 saves for the Warriors (7-3-2).

BLADES 5 TIGERS 4

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Josh Paterson scored twice in a three-goal third period to lead Saskatoon past the Tigers.

Nikita Soshnin, Josh Uhrich and Libor Hajek also chipped in for the Blades (6-3-3). Cameron Hebig and Lukus MacKenzie tacked on two assists each.

Ty Stanton, Matt Bradley, Caleb Fantillo and Josh McNeil provided the offence for Medicine Hat (4-6-1).

ROYALS 3 CHIEFS 0

SPOKANE, Wash. — Griffen Outhouse stopped all 24 shots he faced as Victoria snapped a four-game losing streak by topping the Chiefs.

Jack Walker, Ryan Peckford and Matthew Phillips all scored for the Royals (8-5-0).

Tyson Verheist made 23 saves for Spokane (4-6-2).

SILVERTIPS 2 THUNDERBIRDS 0

EVERETT, Wash. — Carter Hart turned aside 32 shots as the Silvertips blanked Seattle.

Lucas Skrumeda and Connor Dewar found the back of the net for Everett (5-3-0).

Logan Flodell kicked out 22 shots for the Thunderbirds (7-2-1), who entered the game having earned at least one point in eight-straight games.

WINTERHAWKS 5 AMERICANS 4

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Alex Schoenborn scored the winner as Portland slipped past the Americans.

Caleb Jones, Jack Dougherty, Dominic Turgeon and Colton Veloso supplied the rest of the offence for the Winterhawks (4-6-0).

Jordan Topping, Maxwell James, Vladislav Lukin and Brian Williams had goals for Tri-City (4-7-1).

ROCKETS 3 HITMEN 0

KELOWNA, B.C. — Jackson Whistle made 26 saves as the Rockets shut out Calgary.

Kole Lind, Dillon Dube and Cole Linaker had goals for Kelowna (9-4-0), which won its third straight.

Brendan Burke started for the Hitmen (7-6-1) and turned away 10-of-11 shots in 20 minutes before giving way to Kyle Dumba. Dumba made 13 saves in 49:40 of relief.
