DALLAS -- Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid scored his first NHL goal in the second period of a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Tuesday.
McDavid, playing his third game, scored 12:18 into the period to make it 2-2. He tipped in a shot taken by Andrej Sekera, beating goalie Kari Lehtonen.
"I was excited but a lot of it was relief," McDavid said. "It's just the pressure out there these days. It felt good."
The No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft had four shots on goal but no points in his first two games.
"Connor getting his goal was a nice reward," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "I know that he's been squeezing the stick tight and I'm sure that he's felt some pressure to score."
Edmonton has lost its first three games of the season (0-3-0).
