Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today acquired forward Brian O'Neill from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In the event that New Jersey signs O'Neill to a new NHL Standard Player's Contract for the 2016-17 season, New Jersey will transfer its own seventh-round pick in 2017 to Los Angeles. The announcement was made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
O'Neill, 27, has spent the past three-plus seasons with Manchester (AHL). The 5-9, 175-lb. forward appeared in 192 games with the Monarchs from 2012 through 2015, recording 52 goals and 92 assists for 144 points and 116 penalty minutes. In 2014-15, O'Neill was named the AHL's Most Valuable Player, leading the league in points (80), assists (58) and plus/minus (+30, tie). He then finished third in the AHL with 10g-10a-20pts and 12 penalty minutes in 19 post-season games and helped lead the Monarchs to the 2015 Calder Cup Championship. O'Neill was also named to the league's Second All-Star Team and to the Eastern Conference roster for the All-Star Game last season.
