Oilers defenseman Klefbom signs seven-year contract
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom signed a seven-year contract Sunday that reportedly has an average annual value of $4.167 million

The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Oscar Klefbom to a seven-year contract Sunday.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but ESPN reported Klefbom's contract will have an average annual value of $4.167 million.

"He's a top-four [defensemen] and he's going to be a top-two [defensemen] at some point," general manager Peter Chiarelli told the Oilers website. "He plays a real responsible game and he moves the puck. We project on him, but we're fairly confident on it."

Klefbom, 22, had two goals and 18 assists and averaged 21:59 of ice time in 60 games last season with Edmonton. He also ranked third among Oilers defensemen with 102 blocked shots. He had one goal and seven assists in nine games for Oklahoma City in the American Hockey League

Klefbom (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) was selected by Edmonton in the first round (No. 19) of the 2011 NHL Draft. He has three goals and 20 assists in 77 NHL games.

"I think it's a huge deal for me and I'm very excited for this year and the upcoming years," Klefbom said.
