One week after Tyler Johnson said he was not quite 100 percent, the Tampa Bay Lightning forward said on the eve of training camp that his injured right wrist is much better.
"Three weeks ago, I couldn't even shoot, and now I can do everything," Johnson told the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday. "It's one of those things where you've just got to get strength back, but I'll be ready."
Johnson wore a brace on the wrist, which was fractured in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks in June. The injury did not require surgery, and he went without the brace in mid-August.
Johnson, 24, landed on the wrist following a hit from Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook but played the remainder of the series. He tied for the lead in Stanley Cup Playoff scoring with 13 goals and 23 points in 26 games, but had one goal in the final 10 games and stopped taking faceoffs in Game 2 of the Final.
The newspaper said Johnson has participated in all the drills and scrimmages since the Lightning started informal skates Sept. 9. That includes taking faceoffs.
The Lightning open camp Thursday. Johnson said there is no plan to hold him out of preseason games.
"At this point, I'm not really thinking about my wrist," he said. "I'm just playing."
Johnson was tied for 14th in the NHL in scoring last season with 72 points and finished tied for 16th with 29 goals.
