Nelson, Islanders agree to three-year contract
Forward Brock Nelson and the New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a three-year contract reportedly worth $7.5 million.

Forward Brock Nelson and the New York Islanders agreed to a three-year contract, the team said Wednesday. Newsday reported the contract is worth $7.5 million.

Nelson, 23, who became a restricted free agent July 1, had NHL career highs of 20 goals and 42 points in 82 games for the Islanders last season, and has 34 goals and 68 points in 154 regular-season games in his first two seasons in the League. He scored two goals in six Stanley Cup Playoff games in the Islanders' seven-game loss to the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference First Round.

The native of Warroad, Minn., was chosen by the Islanders with the 30th pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Newsday reported that Nelson needed to be signed by 7 a.m. ET Thursday, when players begin reporting for training camp physicals, to be eligible to play for New York this season under a team rule. The NHL requires restricted free agents to sign by Dec. 1.
