Senators forward Stone says wrist is fully healed
Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone said Thursday the wrist he fractured during the Stanley Cup Playoffs is fully healed.

Ottawa Senators forward Mark Stone said Thursday the wrist he fractured during the Stanley Cup Playoffs is fully healed.

"It's felt great out there the last couple of skates," Stone told the Ottawa Sun at Bell Sensplex in Ottawa. "The shot feels good. The hands feel good. My legs are starting to come along. I feel good and I feel like I'm 100 percent."

Stone's 64 points (26 goals, 38 assists) last season were tied with the Calgary Flames' Johnny Gaudreau for most among NHL rookies. He finished second in Calder Trophy voting to Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers.

Stone had four assists to lead the Senators in their six-game Eastern Conference First Round loss to the Montreal Canadiens despite injuring his right wrist on a slash by defenseman P.K. Subban in Game 1. Ottawa went 23-4-4 in its final 31 games to earn the first wild card into the playoffs in the East.

"It was a disappointing way to finish, but we played a lot of good hockey and we obviously can't dig ourselves that big a hole this year because you're not going to be able to get out of it every year," Stone said. "We just need to do a lot of the similar things we did."

Stone agreed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension with the Senators on June 25.

"[The contract] was something [the Senators and I] were both comfortable with," Stone said. "It keeps me a restricted free agent when it's done and it gives me the chance to prove that I can do what I did not only for one year but a number of years."

Stone has been skating at Bell Sensplex with Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers, Erik Gudbrandson of the Florida Panthers and Senators captain Erik Karlsson, among others.
