Senators to hire Alfredsson for front-office role: report
Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is close to accepting a position in their hockey operations department, TSN reported Friday.

Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is close to accepting a position in their hockey operations department, TSN reported Friday.

Alfredsson spent 17 seasons with the Senators before playing the last season of his career with the Detroit Red Wings (2013-14). He officially announced his retirement during a ceremony in Ottawa in December 2014.

This season is expected to be general manager Bryan Murray's last with the Senators. Alfredsson sat next to Murray during the first round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, when Ottawa lost to the Montreal Canadiens in six games. It is unclear what Alfredsson's role would be this season.

Alfredsson, 42, leads the Senators in goals (426), assists (682) and points (1108). He was Ottawa's captain for 13 seasons.
