Sutter, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, could sign for as long as five years with an average annual value of roughly $4.4 million, Elliotte Friedman reported via Twitter. Sutter has one year remaining on his current contract, which has an AAV of $3.3 million, according to war-on-ice.com.
Sutter, 26, had 21 goals and 12 assists in 80 games for the Penguins last season. He has 98 goals and 87 assists in 495 games between the Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes.
The Canucks traded forward Nick Bonino, defenseman Adam Clendening and a second-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft for Sutter and a 2016 third-round pick.
