Stars GM compares Benn, Seguin to Toews, Kane
The Dallas Stars are admittedly measuring themselves against the Chicago Blackhawks, so the comparison from general manager Jim Nill was not out of the blue.

The Dallas Stars are admittedly measuring themselves against the Chicago Blackhawks, so the comparison from general manager Jim Nill was not out of the blue.

"The Benns and Seguins remind me of [Jonathan] Toews and [Patrick] Kane when they were 22, 23, 24 years of age," Nill told the Dallas Morning News last week.

Stars captain Jamie Benn and linemate Tyler Seguin are 26 and 23, respectively. Toews, the Blackahwks' captain, was 22 when he won the Stanley Cup for the first time; Kane was 21.

Since that 2010 championship, the Blackhawks have won twice more, in 2013 and last season, setting a standard the Stars hope to reach.

"They've done a great job in drafting, great job in developing, they've managed their system well, who they signed, who they don't sign," Nill said. "They've made the right trades at the right time. … We're not there, but we think we're on pace with where our players are at."

Last season, Benn led the NHL in scoring with 87 points; Seguin had 77 in 71 games.

This offseason, the Stars acquired Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp in a trade and signed defenseman Johnny Oduya as a free agent.

"I think we're trying to get there," Nill said. "I don't know if we're there. We're getting close I think."
