Looks like T.J. Oshie has convinced one young fan to root for the Washington Capitals.
When Oshie was traded by the St. Louis Blues on July 2, 5-year old Libby Lu was not happy. A video of her crying, saying "T.J. Oshie left the team!" went viral, with more than 300,000 views on YouTube. (WATCH) Libby told her mother she couldn't root for Oshie anymore because he was on another team.
Oshie on Wednesday sent Libby a signed No. 77 Capitals jersey along with a Slapshot figurine, mini sticks and a helmet, the Washington Post said.
On July 5, Oshie called Libby on "SportsCenter" and asked her if she had any questions for him. She asked if he had a swimming pool at his house.
"I'm building a house right now and there's a swimming pool going in," Oshie said. "If you're even up in Minnesota and want to swim in a swimming pool, you can come on over."
Oshie told the young Blues fan she could still root for him and the Capitals because they aren't in the same conference as the Blues, and this week made good on his promise to send her a jersey.
"Thanks for being such a good fan," Oshie said. "I think it's OK if you're a fan of two teams, especially if I'm going out to the Eastern Conference and St. Louis is in the Western Conference.
"Once I figure out my number, you're getting a jersey."
Oshie, 28, was selected by the Blues in the first round (No. 24) of the 2004 NHL Draft and the forward spent his first seven NHL seasons there. He was traded for forward Troy Brouwer, goalie Pheonix Copley and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
