Stalberg eager for opportunity to win with Rangers
Viktor Stalberg won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and is hoping to experience that feeling again with the New York Rangers this season.

Viktor Stalberg won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and is hoping to experience that feeling again with the New York Rangers this season.

"Winning Stanley Cup is surreal. It's a great moment in your life and you always want to get back there because it was so amazing," the 29-year old forward told BlueshirtsUnited.com on Thursday. "I want to do it again. That's why I'm here."

Stalberg spent the past two seasons with the Nashville Predators, who bought out the final two years of his contract in June. The Rangers signed him to a one-year, $1.1 million contract on July 1.

"Playing against the Rangers the past few years, you could see that they were one of the best teams in the League," Stalberg said. "I think it's a great fit for me. Their type of hockey fits my style, plus they have a chance to win it all. That makes for a perfect fit for me."

Stalberg had two goals and 10 points in 25 games last season, and spent time with the Predators' American Hockey League affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. He has 28 points in 95 NHL games in two seasons with the Predators.

"Things didn't work out the way I wanted to, or the way the [Predators] wanted it to, but now I have a great opportunity to play with some great players in New York," Stalberg said. "I felt right away that the New York Rangers wanted me, and it helped make my decision [to sign] easier. I have the chance to play in a great market and a great city. This is a tremendous opportunity for me, and it's up to me to make the most of it."

Stalberg, who will wear No. 25, had an NHL career-high 22 goals and 43 points in 2010-11 with the Blackhawks, and has 62 goals and 132 points in 338 games over six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blackhawks and Predators.

"We talked a little bit about what role I may play before I signed," Stalberg said. "But right now I must compete and earn my spot once camp starts. From there, the rest will take care of itself."
