Ducks hire Nonis as consultant to general manager
The Anaheim Ducks named Dave Nonis as a special assignment scout and consultant to general manager Bob Murray on Friday.

The Anaheim Ducks named Dave Nonis as a special assignment scout and consultant to general manager Bob Murray on Friday.

Nonis, 49, served as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs from January 2013 until he was fired on April 12 with three years remaining on his contract. He also worked for the Ducks for six months in 2008 as an adviser under general manager Brian Burke and was GM of the Vancouver Canucks from 2004-08, where he replaced Burke.

Nonis played hockey at the University of Maine (1984-88), where he captained the Black Bears for two seasons and led them to back-to-back NCAA tournaments. He played one season professionally in Denmark before returning to Maine to join the coaching staff in 1989.

The Maple Leafs granted the Ducks permission to speak to Nonis. it is unknown if Toronto will seek draft-pick compensation from Anaheim.
