Wild re-sign Granlund, Prosser, Carter, add Reilly

The Minnesota Wild re-signed center Mikael Granlund and defenseman Nate Prosser each to a two-year contract on Wednesday, and center Ryan Carter to a one-year contract. The Wild also signed defenseman Mike Reilly to a two-year entry-level contract after he reportedly decided to sign last week.

Granlund's contract is worth $6 million, according to Sportsnet. Carter's contract is worth $625,000, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. No monetary value was reported on Prosser's contract.

"We liked our team," general manager Chuck Fletcher told the Wild website Wednesday. "I think we were the first or second best team in the League after Jan. 1. Certainly a talented team, a good hockey team. We could have 14 players 25 and under next year, which I think might most be in the NHL, and typical players don’t hit their prime until 26-27. We're pretty excited about our future. A lot of guys will have an opportunity to become important players."

Granlund, 23, had 39 points and a plus-17 rating in 68 games last season. He was the first-line center with Zach Parise on his left wing at the end of the season. Granlund has 88 points in 158 games in three seasons with the Wild.

"I don't think anybody anticipates Granlund to be an eight-goal, 40-point guy for the rest of his career," Fletcher said. "He is going to take off here over the next two years."

Prosser, 29, had seven points in an NHL career-high 63 games last season. He has 28 points in 189 games in parts of six seasons with the Wild. Carter, 31, had three goals and 13 points in 53 games in his first season with the Wild; he has 34 goals and 81 points in 413 games with the Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils and Wild.

Prosser and Carter each was injured last season.

"Both Nate and Ryan I thought played very well for us. Prior to getting injured, Ryan was a big factor on our team," Fletcher said. "Ryan brings a lot of character, versatility. He can play either wing, he can play center, he can kill penalties. He's a competitive guy and can stick up for his teammates. [Prosser] can play either side [on defense], he kills penalties, he defends well. Another guy that just wanted to be here badly."

Reilly, 21, was a college free agent after completing his junior season at the University of Minnesota. He had 42 points in 39 games for the Gophers last season and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist. He led NCAA defensemen in scoring, assists (36) and power-play assists (19).

"I think I feel comfortable here, and there's a lot of great pieces they have and a lot of young guys too, mixed with some veterans that want to win and are bound to win," he said. "They are ready to win."

Reilly grew up in Chanhassen, Minn. He was a first-team All-America and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior. He helped the U.S. win the bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF World Championship. He won gold at the 2013 World Junior Championship, and said Parise, another Minnesota native, convinced him to sign in his home state.

"Definitely had a good call with [Parise]," Reilly said. "He reached out to me, it really meant a lot for him being a role model for a lot of kids and a great player for many years, and he's got a lot of years left as well. He had some good words."

The Wild also signed forwards Zac Dalpe and Ruslan Fedotenko to one-year, two-way contracts, and forward Marc Hagel to a two-year, two-way contract.

Dalpe, 25, had three points in 21 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season, and 16 goals and 28 points in 44 games with Rochester of the American Hockey League.

Fedotenko, 36, had three goals in 13 games with Iowa of the AHL last season. He last played in the NHL in 2012-13 with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Hagel, 26, had 12 goals and 33 points in 67 games with Iowa.
